I know we all enjoy casually ribbing Leonardo DiCaprio for dating progressively-younger models, but this really has to stop sometime soon. And not just because it bothers me or I’m a bitter old hag, as commenters delight in assuming, but because pretty soon Leo’s gonna come up against a pretty serious obstacle — the law.
Leo’s latest girlfriend is Toni Garrn, a twenty-one year old German model who first broke into the American runway scene with an exclusive Calvin Klein contract, and who, yes, has also modeled for Victoria’s Secret. Otherwise how would Leo have met her? If the newest models aren’t in the show room when he comes by, they really have no hope of getting off the lot. But luckily Toni was buffed up and ready to go in May of 2013 when Leo stopped in after his last break-up, and the two of them have been together ever since.
But you’re good at math, right? So you know that Toni would only have been twenty years old when she’s rumored to have started dating Leo, who would’ve been thirty-eight at the time. I have no issue with an eighteen-year age difference in a lot of cases, but we can all agree that Leo needs to pump those brakes, right? He loves going younger with every new relationship, but he should really wean himself of that habit, because he’s drifting dangerously close to underage territory.
But even if it wasn’t close to becoming a legal thing, what does Leonardo DiCaprio honestly have in common with a twenty-one year old model? Friends, probably. I bet they know a lot of the same people — perhaps biblically, in Leo’s case — but what else? She’s never done a movie, he’s never walked a runway. They went shopping at a secondhand record store the other day, which is ironic because some of the records were probably older than she was.
I’m sure it’s exciting to replace the old worn-out version with a younger model (literally), but it’s all fun and games until someone’s dating a sixteen-year old. Seriously.
