Jennifer Lawrence Flipped Off The Paparazzi Again, Somehow Got Away With It

Know how I know that Jennifer Lawrence is a mystical wizard who’s cast a spell of acceptance over us? Because she flipped off the paparazzi this past weekend, and everyone was ALL ABOUT IT.

Jennifer and her on-again-off-again boyfriend Nicholas Hoult went to a club called The Box in the Soho area of London, and when they came out, there was at least one but probably multiple photographers waiting for them. As there would tend to be, when you’re one of the most famous and swiftly rising stars on the face of Planet Earth. But Jenn was absolutely not into it, covering her face with her coat to deny the paparazzi a good shot, and even flipping them off for good measure.

Now don’t get me wrong here — I can’t imagine how annoying it must be to have your every move dogged by a group of strangers who make money essentially by stalking you, and sometimes shout a few expletives for good measure. It’s surely irritating and overwhelming and perhaps even scary sometimes, but it’s also surely something that J-Law has gotten used to at events, right? Did something happen to make her pissed off, or is that just something that we’re totally down with our dream-BFF doing?

Because as I recall, things were prettttty different when it was old Kristen Stewart doing the bird-flipping. Everyone was all, “WTF is her problem, why so surly, Kristen?” but when Jennifer does the same thing, people are literally cheering her on Twitter, saying it’s so refreshing? I honestly don’t get it. I think it’s becoming more and more obvious with every passing day that J-Law has placed us all under a friendship-based Imperius Curse, where we have no choice but to delight in her every move.

I personally don’t have a big issue either way with the middle finger, at least when you don’t have a young fan base looking up to you, but we should at least try to avoid a double standard, right? It’s just that — IMPERIOOOOOOOO!

but actually. any other celebrity who does this comes off as an a**hole.

    • CMJ

Alexis, please don’t anger the Jenniderps.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

        Derp derp derp!

    • ppn

Tbh I don’t give a fuck about the paparazzi, they’re scum. So i have no problem with celebs giving them the finger or putting poop on their cars.

      • Elizabeth Aspen

Well, when they do that they’re kind of just giving them what they want. You can’t make money off of a smiling picture, but they can off a pic of a celeb flipping out. That’s why they always provoke Alec Baldwin.

      • ppn

Nah this makes the photo harder to sell. Most papers/mags won’t buy and print it with an obscene gesture.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

They’re still human beings, so I don’t know how debasing them by putting poop on their cars would be in any way helpful.

      • ppn

Human beings who harass, insult and mock other human beings just for a reaction that will make them money. Yeah sorry no sympathy from me.

    • Athena

LOL!…good for her!. Apparently, the paps shout the vile “c” word to female celebs….maybe this was one of those times and that’s all there was to it. So, flip away Miss Lawrence and ANY young actress who is treated badly by the paps.

    • Elizabeth Aspen

Don’t ask me to feel sorry for rich people who stand around and pretend to be other people for a living when ordinary Americans still can’t find work today. Unless a celeb is being chased Princess Di-style or the paps are taking pics of their children, I have no sympathy for them. They knew what they were getting into when they signed their big recording or movie deals, so they can either deal with it or give back their inflated paychecks.

      • Kelly17

I think it’s completely understandable, the paparazzi are harassing.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

I’m not questioning that the paparazzi harass celebrities — I’m questioning the double standard that we hold said celebrities to when they react.

      • Kelly17

        I was responding to Elizabeth

      • astro

That’s the working class hero bs the paparazzi always sell, that celebrities making a lot of money allows them to be dehumanized. Nope. Not buying it. Especially regarding celebrities who are not born into Hollywood royalty and have to earn their way.

      • Luke

Celebrities aren’t the only rich people either. How many times do you see Bill Gates on the mags? He’s worth thousands of Jennifers quite literally.
        You’re deranged.

    • Alyssa

Honestly I think every celebrity should be flipping off the paps. They’re goddamn jerks and I love it when someone decides to flip them off or chew them out. Props to JLaw, KStew, and any other celebrity who won’t put up with their bullshit.

    • astro

Those poor, poor paparazzi. LOL. You stalk people for a living then an occasional flip off is relatively small costs. However what the author doesn’t tell us that the paps have a tendency to be intentionally nasty in order to elicit a response, cursing, insulting and mocking in addition to stalking. So F them. The reason no one cares is because the paparazzi are garbage.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

The author did in fact tell you that paps have those tendencies. Feel free to read a little more closely next time.

    • J_Doe5686

Most people don’t like kstew and J-law is America’s sweetheart. That’s the difference.

    • HB

They’re making just as much money off her flipping them off as they would’ve if she’d shown her face and smiled.
Also, giving the finger is just tacky, in my opinion. No matter how much I like a celebrity (and I really like J. Law), it’s just sort of a classless move. Better to just ignore them and then rant about it online, or call their bosses to complain, or tell them off then and there.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

Absolutely agreed. There are more proactive ways to handle it.

      • Luke

        You are deranged

    • katydid41

I do sympathize with celebs’ animosity toward paps and I wish there were effective laws to prevent paps’ abuses. Especially, I want the photos of celebs’ children to be totally off-limits and I wish paps’ photos could be lawfully limited to awards ceremonies etc and no coverage of private times.
I also know that when celebs “misbehave” in front of cameras that just plays into the paps game plan.
And eventually the “misbehaviors” seem to esculate to shocking levels where the public support of the celeb shifts to non-support and then the paps really have a field day harrassing the celeb.
It’s a catch 22 for the celebs. I really value Jennifer Lawrence’s talents and good sense and I for one can live without all the publicity that is stalking her. I’m ashamed that I even read this article and from now on I will be much more selective about what I select to view vav Jennifer.
