I hope you weren’t planning to get anything done just yet this morning (or this afternoon or evening depending on when you’re reading this, all times of day are welcome), because there’s a supercut of Christopher Walken dancing in movies making the rounds on the Internet, and it’s important. Like really important. You won’t even realize how important until you start watching. The video was put together by The Huffington Post and features clips from a lot of movies, spanning 1977 all the way to 2013. There’s a full list on the site.
Not only has Mr. Walken appeared in approximately every film ever made since the invention of cinema, but he also happens to dance in a lot of them. There were enough examples to fill almost five minutes. And it’s not just one particular type of dancing, either. He slow dances, he waves his arms in the air like he just don’t care, he rips his shirt off at one point. Sometimes he’s doing it at a party, sometimes he’s just at home getting ready in front of the mirror. Sometimes he sings while he dances, sometimes he just wants to focus on the movement. But no matter what, he gives it his all. If this video doesn’t make you happy, I don’t know what will. It’s Christopher Walken! He’s the world’s collective eccentric uncle.
It’s also nice for once to watch a Christopher Walken video that doesn’t involve someone doing an impression of him. Don’t get me wrong, I’m obsessed with impressions, and a good Walken definitely entertains me. But there’s so much more to him than his voice. And by “so much more” I really just mean those dance moves. The fact that it’s set to “Everybody Dance Now,” the theme song of my elementary roller rink nights, just makes it that much more mesmerizing.
