I don’t want to put words in anybody’s mouth, but are we absolutely positive that Emma Watson enjoys working in Hollywood? I have no doubt that she’s able to think and make decisions for herself, but with these new statements she’s made in an interview, I’m starting to think that maybe she’s just doing all this acting stuff to be nice.
After all, Harry Potter is and was a pretty important thing to all of us, right? (Come on guys, don’t leave me hanging out here on this nerd-limb all alone.) Maybe Emma thinks we all got so attached to the character of Hermione Granger over the course of eight movies that she owes it to us to stay in the movie business even though it’s not her most favorite thing ever.
Don’t believe me? Look at what she told Elle in a recent interview, talking about younger actresses:
“There are all these actresses who have emerged in the last year or two, and they get to emerge as this complete human being. And I’m so jealous!”
I mean, yeah. It can’t be easy at all to navigate your career from child actor to young adult. It’d be way easier to show up with a full-blown young adult personality, as actresses like Jennifer Lawrence, Elle Fanning, Lupita Nyong’o, Brie Larson, and Chloe Grace Moretz were able to manage. But Emma did it the hard way, and she did it for us. She’s had to give up her person life on almost every level, so I hope you’re happy.
“I remember reading this thing that Elizabeth Taylor wrote. She had her first kiss in character. On a movie set. It really struck me. I don’t know how or why, but I had this sense that if I wasn’t really careful, that could be me. That my first kiss could be in somebody else’s clothes. And my experiences could all belong to someone else.”
Guys I can’t afford it by myself, but can we all pitch in and buy her a ticket home from Hollywood? It can’t be that expensive, and then she can go be smart and happy somewhere! I always love the things she says and the fashion choices she makes (well, almost always), and just her attitude in general, but go home girl! We can take it from here.
