I think it’s time to start a slow clap for Shailene Woodley, because she’s showing a seriously large pair of brass balls by criticizing the relationship in Twilight. That’s an intense fan base to tangle with, and we wish her the best of luck.
Oh and I guess I should clarify — she didn’t insult Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson specifically. (That’s the stuff of my dreams, that a celebrity would speak publicly about Crushable’s pet conspiracy theory that Robsten was a fakelationship and that their breakup was one of the most brilliant PR stunts of all time.) Instead, she disrespected the sacred union between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, an injustice which I suspect shan’t soon be forgotten by Twihards.
Speaking to Teen Vogue, Shailene said:
“Twilight, I’m sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship. She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she’s going to kill herself!”
OKAY NO. P’scuse me Shailene, but that is not accurate. It’s actually not over because she finds another man to fulfill her! Jacob! And this one is warm and treats her nicely so she must DISCARD HIM when her real man comes back! The love of her life one! The one who requires that she reject everything she holds dear including her family and her friends and become a bloodthirsty murderer who lives forever! Don’t you know anything??
“What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve.”
A fairytale one, Shailene! What’s so hard to understand?? Either you’re on board with Bella and Edward and Kristen and Rob, or you hate true love and you want to squash it under your shoe wherever you find it.
