Shailene Woodley Received Great Advice From Jennifer Lawrence, Earns A Spot On Your BFF List

Shailene Woodley ELLE 20th Annual Women In Hollywood Beverly Hills California October 22 2013

I know, I know.  We’re all tired of hearing things like “Jennifer Lawrence is our ideal BFF” and “I wanna be besties with J-Law!”  I get it.  But Shailene Woodley wants you to know she doesn’t feel that way and is on a mission to make J-Law her actual best friend.  I never knew how much I wanted this to happen, so it better happen.

Now that Shailene is starring in the Divergent franchise, she’s admittedly terrified (and justifiably so) of all of the attention that will undoubtedly come along with that for the next few years.  Naturally, she did what most of us would do: she reached out to Jennifer Lawrence for her input.

“She was like, ‘Small things will change, but if you stay who you are, nothing will change. The big picture won’t change. It’s only going to make your life greater and you’ll be so grateful for it. Don’t be stupid, don’t make a sex tape, don’t do drugs, don’t go to Whole Foods the day the movie opens, and you’ll be fine!’ I thought, ‘I’m gonna love this chick when I meet her.’”

Honestly, I’m so relieved Jennifer lost out on the Oscar this year because now I feel like it’s okay to like her again.  Okay, I never really stopped.  I just didn’t want it to turn into an Anne Hathaway situation… which it apparently did for a lot of people. Like beautifully insufferable modern Ombre Jesus Jared Leto, for one. While I still can’t stomach Anne (and not in a “let’s pit women against women” way, it’s more like a “she gives me a cavity” way), even with this awards season being overly saturated with Jennifer Lawrence GIFs galore, I find that I can still tolerate her quite a bit.  I think it’s pretty cool that Shailene reached out to her for advice.  I wonder why she didn’t ask Kristen Stewart?  Weird!

Count me in for a Jennifer/Shailene/me Whole Foods date the day after Divergent opens!

Apparently Anne Hathaway is super nice and cool! Like, cooler than J.Law. My friend worked as a seat filler at the Oscar’s this year and she sat right behind Anne Hathaway. She said she was by far the coolest person there. Anne and her husband snuck in a flask of tequila and they were sharing it all around with Amy Adams and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and like just having tons of fun. I can no longer stomach Anne Hathaway hate bc she is legitimately awesome.

@Alana: Okay, so both Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway are cool….how about we leave it at that?. Personally I prefer Lawrence but I’m not going to hate on anyone….sick of that baloney. Great article Cassandra!!….I loved how positive and optimistic it is….Happy International Women’s Day!!.

Yep, I can’t believe that the Anne Hathaway hate-train is still a thing. There is legitimately no logical reason to dislike her, so I have to assume that people usually have other semi-disguised emotions (*cough* jealousy *cough*) that they mask and what they might not even be fully aware of. And that’s what drives them onto this bandwagon. Because as long as it’s socially acceptable to hate young female stars simply for being successful, people will feel validated about this kind of attitude, whether they admit to themselves the real reasons for it or not.

And same goes to Jennifer Lawrence obviously. People couldn’t wait to see that bandwagon hate to start.

I have wanted to be Shailene Woodleys best friend for forever. But I’m also somebody who watched the awful Secret Life for way too long because of her. But I want to go foraging with her, wear out 5 toed running shoes together (they are the best), and I can just bask in her awesomeness. And I’m so ready for a Hathaway comeback! I miss her being in movies, and never got the Hathaway hate.

I’m kinda surprised that she would say this because she seems very anti Hollywood and hating all the phony work and unwanted attention it attracts.
