For as much as we good-naturedly tease celebrities, there are some things that deserve our full, serious attention. That list includes mental illness, body-shaming, struggles with addiction, and stalking, among others.
Those are all topics it’s totally not okay to use against someone, which is why even though we usually poke fun at Taylor Swift, we’re all business today. Why? Because she’s being stalked, and that’s terrifying. There’s a man out there who seems to genuinely believe that he and Taylor are not just dating, but actually married, and the comments he’s made to her have her seriously worried. His name is Timothy Sweet, and he’s a thirty-three year old man who, at six feet tall and 200 pounds, cuts quite an imposing figure.
Apparently he’s been contacting her through letters, phone messages, and social media, repeatedly harassing her with claims that he’s her husband, to the point that she’s taken out a temporary restraining order against him that prohibits him from contacting her via any electronic means, including online. It will last until March 25th, when there will be a court hearing to decide whether to extend the order.
The request, filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, states that the accused’s contact is:
”seriously alarming and harassing and are extremely distressing to me and my family” and said that she does “not have desire to interact with or communicate in any way with Mr Sweet.”
This is serious stuff, guys, and we’re glad that Taylor is taking the necessary steps to protect herself from a fan who has taken things too far. Just a reminder to always be aware of stuff like this, because the sooner you report it, the less likely it is that the situation will escalate.
