Welcome to the morning after the Oscars! How are you feeling? Did you have “drink every time pizza was mentioned” in your drinking game instructions, and are you therefore feeling like crap crossed with more crap? Keep your chin up and look at these photos of Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o and Best Supporting Actress nominee (and therefore loser) Jennifer Lawrence fighting over the Oscar backstage. Yeah, that’s right. Two famous women fighting. Better dust off the word “catfight,” because we’ll probably be needing it.
Oh what’s that? They’re just joking? It’s possible for two actresses up for the same award to be nice to each other? Who’da thunk it? According to The Daily Mail, Jennifer actually wanted Lupita to win the award, telling friends that “she so deserves it.” Guys, even Jennifer Lawrence was rooting for Lupita Nyong’o. And even if she was actually rooting for herself, I defy her to feel jealous after listening to that tear-inducing speech.
If you were following the emotional roller coaster that was the 2014 awards season, you’ll know that J.Law and L.Nyong (I’m testing it out, don’t judge me) were neck and neck there for a while in the Supporting Actress field. Who would win? Our BFF from high school or the cool girl we just met in the college dining hall? The girl who fell at the Academy Awards two years in a row or the girl who wore your second grade headband with a designer gown and made best dressed lists everywhere? Decisions, decisions.
If the sight of the universe’s ultimate girl crushes engaging in a playful tug-of-war over the most coveted statue in Hollywood isn’t enough to start your day off with a grin, just look what’s happening behind them. Just Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey chatting the night away, probably complimenting each other’s bow ties and, oh yeah, bonding over the fact that they just won Oscars. What I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall of this event. Unfortunately I’m sure they keep the backstage area flawless for the celebrities who inhabit it, so if I were a fly I’d most likely be killed within thirty seconds. Would it be worth it? Yeah, probably.
