For the first time in nearly a year, Amanda Bynes is back on Twitter with a whole new personality and attitude. Her profile now describes her as a “Fashion Student” and all of her negative past Twitter history has been erased, providing a clean Twitter slate for her future endeavors. I have to say, when I first realized she was active on Twitter again, I was a little apprehensive. This is a girl who has seemingly been to hell and back in a very short time, and probably could benefit from avoiding all social media and publicity for a long time. But I think the message she sent out was not only appropriate, but really positive.
Hi everyone! I’m busy studying at @FIDM but I want to say I love you to my fans! Xoxo Amanda

Maybe I’m reading too much into this (or maybe all of the cynical bones in my body are on hiatus today), but you can kind of feel the positive energy radiating from this tweet. It doesn’t scream “my publicist clearly wrote this” and it’s honestly just a happy message.
Obviously, mental illness doesn’t just go away overnight. It’ll be something she struggles with managing for the rest of her life. But I do hope she realizes that even after everything that played out so publicly for so long, she’s put a face to mental illness and demonstrated that it doesn’t have to define you. I hope that someday (in my mind, this occurs on Oprah’s Where Are They Now? series) we hear stories about the people who found strength in Amanda’s story.
