Patrick Stewart’s Twitter Response To Being Mistakenly Called Gay Defines ‘Good Sport’

If you’re the type of person who spends an average amount of time on this here Internet, you probably have a lot of reasons in your brain bank to love Sir Patrick Stewart, the photo at left certainly being one of them. But you can never really have too many reasons, so allow me to present you with yet another one.

After Ellen Page came out as a lesbian this weekend, plenty of celebrities and normals alike tweeted their support for her. That included Patrick Stewart. In an article describing the public response to Ellen’s speech, British newspaper The Guardian mistakenly called him gay, writing, “Some gay people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page’s coming out speech is newsworthy.” Perhaps they were confusing him with his colleague and bestie Sir Ian McKellen, who is gay, or maybe they thought that showing support for a gay person makes you gay. Sir Patrick is, in fact, heterosexual, and has been married to Sunny Ozell, his third wife, since last year.

So how did he respond to the mistake? By being his usual good-natured, funny self on Twitter, of course. Here’s what he had to say after The Guardian corrected their mistake:

And then he added this:

Love love love. He defines “good sport,” doesn’t he? He wasn’t offended by the mistake, but he also didn’t do any sort of collar-pulling “Not that there’s anything wrong with that” bit. I bet immediately after sending those tweets he put on his best lobster costume and went out for a pint with Sir Ian, and they had a good laugh about it.
