Selena Gomez Actually Was In Rehab, But Just This Once I Won’t Say ‘I Told You So’

Selena Gomez hiding her face when leaving tanning salon January 2014Oh man I’m really in a tight spot here. On the one hand, I’m really proud of Selena Gomez for bucking up and going to rehab, because it sounds like it was something she really needed. But on the other hand, we here at Crushable predicted this months ago, and I’m really bursting to say ‘I told you so.’

According to Radar Online, Selena had a two week emergency stay in January at an Arizona facility called Dawn at the Meadows. They specialize in ‘patients 18 to 26 years old who are struggling with emotional trauma, addiction or dual diagnosis concerns’, but a spokesperson for Selena insists that:

“Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse.”

But that’s not the information that Radar received. According to them, Selena was ‘partying very hard’ in the months before her stay, spending time with Justin Bieber (whom she apparently blames for her issues, according to TMZ) and experimenting with marijuana and even beginning to abuse prescription drugs like Xanax and Ambien.

“With fame came a partying lifestyle. Her friends and family became increasingly worried that there might be a serious problem with Selena. Particularly, her parents. The partying was, at times, wild. They wanted to help her — and they very much encouraged her to go to rehab. Others very close to her also urged her to seek professional help.”

Like…I get it. Sometimes you need to cancel your tour and go to rehab, that makes total sense to me, and I wish more celebrities had the courage to do it. But if I had unlimited wishes, I’d wish that celebrities who do end up at rehab also had the courage to A. take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming them on little Bieber idiots, and B. be honest about it. The fact that she hid the stay from her fans by calling it ‘me time’ only adds more stigma onto a an already overly-difficult process.

Wouldn’t it have been brave and awesome and great if instead of calling exhaustion in hopes of protecting her squeaky-clean image, Selena had actually come clean and said, “Hey guys, I haven’t been exactly honest with you, but I’ve been struggling with some pretty big, dangerous stuff, and I need to go take care of it.” It might not have made her the best Disney role model, but it would’ve made her a really excellent real-world model for those of her fans who might not have the support of their parents and unlimited funds at their disposal to go toward recovery.

Just my two cents, but it sounds like she’s doing well now, which is great. I hope that continues to be the case.

Selena was probably high/hungover when she crashed her X5 in December. So when Selena goes to rehab for drugs and booze, everyone supports her and wishes her well, because she is portrayed as a great role model. Miley is open about pot and molly, but if she had gone to rehab, people would laugh at Miley. Such hypocrisy!! Unfortunately, it is ALL about perception.
This is probably why all of the sudden we see Selena with Demi (for support).
This is why from Jan. 3 to Jan. 20, Selena was no where on twitter.
Also, this is why Demi lashed out at drugs during Phillip Symour death.
Everything is falling into place like Murder She Wrote.

If they did, I think people would laugh at Miley because everything seems so fake and set up with her. If she truly had a drug problem, she wouldn’t be open about it. She would hide it, as so many addicts do, until we started seeing the signs that she couldn’t hide it anymore. Sure I believe that Miley smokes weed, she tells us everyday, but I don’t think she is much further than that. I think molly is just the “hot drug” of the moment, and she throws it in for street cred.

My main thought is the perception. Selena portrays herself as a great role model, but she has skeletons in her closet that people quickly discount.. Her fans would never admit that Selena is a hypocrite for saying she doesn’t do drugs in past magazine interviews, and this rehab situation happens. All is forgiven, as Selena continues to get a free pass.
I guess National Enquirer (Dec) was right when they said people saw Selena do pot and molly at a party. I didn’t believe it at the time.

Miley gets a ton of flack, but she’s not the one out there getting arrested, crashing her car and going to rehab. Her “scandals” seem to be: acting provocatively/getting naked, sticking out her tongue and openly loving marijuana, which many states are attempting to legalize/decriminalize. These things pale in comparison to the antics I mentioned above.

I would say that it was good of her for getting help for her problems, except for a few things… First of all, she only completed two weeks of a six week program, leaving against medical advice so that she could go to the Sundance Film Festival. Basically, a big party. Way to go! Also, I just love it when celebs admit to going to rehab, but “not for substance abuse.” Uhh…Isn’t that what rehab is specifically for? So much for honesty and owning your problem, the first crucial steps to healing from addiction. And on that note, she is publicly blaming her problems on Justin. That is so ridiculously lame that I can’t even believe it. Low blow. Totally unfair and not going to help her begin to get better. Which I don’t think she is really interested in. Probably just went to get people off her back. To be fair, she is very young, and young people usually (but not always) have a long way to go before they are honestly ready to recover, which I totally understand. Good luck Sel! I think you’re goona need it!

Oh I didn’t realize she only did two of six weeks. That’s a bummer. And yeah, I wish she’d come right out with it as well.
