I don’t know about you, but sometimes instead of going out or being with other humans or doing everyday things, I would rather scroll through Twitter. There are just so many funny and interesting people to follow, and if you have an account it’s likely the first place you hear breaking news. One of my favorite Twitter phenomena is the parody account. Whether it’s someone pretending to be a celebrity and saying hilarious things or a reimagining of classic movie and TV show plots in the modern era, I’m always on the lookout for accounts to follow.
So naturally I thought I’d share twelve of my favorites with you, in case there’s one or two or a dozen that you haven’t heard of but would love to follow. Some of these have been dormant for a brief time, but it’s totally worth it to go back and look through past tweets. And then follow them so you’re one of the first to know when they tweet again.
Cher: Duh, it’s like a famous quote. Dionne: From where? Cher: Wikipedia.
— Present Day Clueless (@ModernClueless) January 22, 2014
We already discussed our favorite tweets from this account last week when it took the Internet by storm, but it’s worth mentioning again. The basic idea is that classic quotes from Clueless are changed to apply to today’s trends.
CHARLOTTE: Let’s have pho! SAMANTHA: It’s pronounced “fuh”! CARRIE: So is what Aidan did to me last night! MIRANDA: I’m allergic to pho
— Sex and the City 3 (@SATC3quel) January 12, 2014
I cannot get enough of this hilarious account. Anyone who’s watched way too many Sex and the City marathons and rolled their eyes at Carrie’s puns or Miranda’s patheticness will appreciate these fake quotes from an imagined third movie.
I don’t know about you / So I won’t assume your experience as a woman / But I’m feeling 22
— FeministTaylorSwift (@feministtswift) January 16, 2014
If you’ve ever listened to a T-Swift song and thought, “Gee, I wish she put some more intellectual feminist messages into her lyrics,” then this is the account for you. Its tagline is “Happy. Free. Confused. Oppressed by the patriarchy. At the same time.”
So far, the best-dressed are Julianna Margulies, Michelle Dockery, and Kerry Washington’s baby. (And me, at home, in Hello Kitty pajamas.)
— Suri’s Burn Book (@surisburnbook) January 13, 2014
Suri’s Burn Book is a blog where “Suri Cruise” comments on (and mostly criticizes) other celebrity children and their fashion sense. The Twitter account is just as entertaining, and I now imagine Suri Cruise being exactly like this in real life.
I have named every one of my hairs, and tie strands together so they may converse. At night, the din of their chatter is almost unbearable.
— Tilda Swinton (@NotTildaSwinton) May 31, 2013
I am so obsessed with this account and so sad that it hasn’t been updated as regularly as it used to. Basically it’s a fake Twitter for everyone’s favorite alien Tilda Swinton. Did you know she has a bat named Theremiah?
Elaine’s excited about her new bf til he shows up on New Years wearing 2014 glasses. Kramer celebrates on London time to “avoid the crowds.”
— Modern Seinfeld (@SeinfeldToday) December 31, 2013
This account is so accurate it will blow your mind. It imagines plots for new Seinfeld episodes if the show were still on today. They’re often topical and always hilarious.
Last night in a drunken stupor, I fell and I couldn’t get up, and it gave me an an idea…
— ’80s Don Draper (@80sDonDraper) November 13, 2013
We all know Mad Men takes place in the ’60s, but what if Don applied his dramatic advertising pitches to silly ’80s products? Obviously hilarity would ensue.
The aroma of warm cookies hangs heavy in the air; it reminds Taylor Swift of holidays past. “I baked for someone I loved, once,” she murmurs
— Taylor Swift (@WhatTaylorDoes) December 19, 2013
One Taylor Swift parody account just isn’t enough. This one’s exactly what it sounds like; it dramatically narrates what probably happens in Taylor Swift’s life. Simple concept, great execution.
— HuffPo Spoilers (@HuffPoSpoilers) January 19, 2014
This is only pop culture related in that the account often retweets celebrity stories, but I just had to include this one. The tagline is “I give in to @HuffingtonPost click-bait so you don’t have to.”
10. Hendall Convos
kendall: I love you kylie kris: kendall you’re supposed to love harry kanye: I love you kanye
— hendall convos (@hendall_convos) January 19, 2014
This is a pretty new one, but it’s already made quite the Internet impression and garnered more than 40,000 followers. We love it here at Crushable because we’re of the belief that Harry Styles and Kendall Jenner are in a fakelationship, and so is this Twitter account.
Abraham’s gaze was terrible. He threw his child to the ground & cried: “Do people really think I’d wax my daughters eyebrows so young?”
— KimKierkegaardashian (@KimKierkegaard) December 18, 2013
What happens when you mash up Kim Kardashian and Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard? This Twitter account. The name alone is brilliant.
12. Zooey Asks Siri
Siri, are other fruits jealous of passion fruit?
— Zooey Asks Siri (@ZooeySiri) September 5, 2013
Remember that amazing iPhone ad where Zooey Deschanel asked Siri if it was raining? Well this account imagines other things Zooey has asked Siri about various subjects. Oh to be a fly on that wall.
