Cumberbitch Checklist: What You Need To Prepare For The Sherlock Premiere

Sherlock Turning Head

This is it, my fellow Cumberbitches. We’re in the final stretch of days before season three of Sherlock airs in the United States and I could not be closer to the edge. of my. seat. The United Kingdom has already had access to all that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman goodness for like THREE WEEKS, so it’s been a daily struggle since then to keep my brain focused and my fingers from tapping away on the keyboard looking for a way to cheat and watch it.

But I’ve mastered my impulses and stayed on the straight and narrow, mostly because I like this show a whole lot, and I want it to stay on the air. So even if every other American is streaming it illegally, I shall sit quietly and (im)patiently lie awake for sleepless nights in my apartment waiting for 10:00 this Sunday night, January 19th. This is what happens when you’re raised to fear authority / the internet. Thanks, DAD.

I’m hoping I’m not the only person in this position, but even if I am — I’m not completely out of luck. It might be three days, eleven hours, and however many minutes until I find out exactly how Sherlock survived that fall, but there are some things I can do to occupy my time that I highly recommend for people suffering similarly.

So follow these instructions to the letter, don’t take your eye off the prize, and above all — keep calm and carry on. I think it was Steven Moffat who said that, right? Right.

Step 1. Watch seasons one and two on Netflix. It’s live-streaming and it’s only six episodes, which hopefully you already know, if you’ve taken the liberty of naming yourself a Cumberbitch. I recommend at least two full viewings, three or four if you’re feeling peaky.

Step 2. Let Benedict tease you about the explanation for the ‘The Fall’ in this video. If he wasn’t so adorable, it might be irritating that he gives absolutely nothing away, but…no yeah, he’s still just adorable. Just checking.

Step 3. Check out the trailer for season three for actual hints, emotional devastation, and some real live goosebumps.

Step 4. And if that wasn’t enough for you to really get your jollies off, please to enjoy the interactive trailer on the BBC website. Just beware of spoilers.

Step 5. While on the website, why don’t you tool around for a bit? There are lots of fun behind-the-scene features, and even an observation game that lets you share your score to Facebook or Twitter, so everyone knows you mean business.
