7. Cate Blanchett, Coffee and Cigarettes
This whole movie features vignettes where celebrities play themselves, but this one really stands out because A.) Cate Blanchett is fabulous, and B.) She also plays a fictional cousin who looks just like her. Brilliant.
8. Bill Murray, Zombieland
Bill Murray is one of the other celebrities in Coffee and Cigarettes, and he also played himself in Space Jam, but perhaps his best cameo is in Zombieland. Bill Murray is always great, but zombie makeup makes any celeb cameo funnier.
9. Jerry Seinfeld, Seinfeld
Jerry Seinfeld built a whole show around playing a fictionalized version of himself. The difference between this character and ones like Van Der Beek and LeBlanc is that Jerry plays the straight man and doesn’t exaggerate his persona in the same way.
10. Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Speaking of Seinfeld, its co-creator Larry David also played himself on a hit sitcom. What’s different here is that much of the dialogue is improvised. The show also features plenty of celebrity cameos, upping the meta quotient by quite a bit.
11. Louis CK, Louie
Aaand here’s another comedian starring as himself on a sitcom. Louie really is Louis CK’s show. Not only does he play himself, but he also writes, directs, produces and edits the episodes.
12. Paul Giamatti, Cold Souls
Here’s a weird one for you. Paul Giamatti stars in this movie as Paul Giamatti, a character who chooses to have his soul frozen but then must get it back when it’s sold on the black market. I told you it was weird.
13. Julia Roberts, Ocean’s Twelve
This one can be a little confusing to keep up with. Julia Roberts is playing a woman named Tess who looks like Julia Roberts and is also pretending to be Julia Roberts. So in a very roundabout way Julia Roberts is playing herself. Oh, and Bruce Willis is there too.
