6. Sara Bareilles’ “Brave”
This is such a girl power anthem, and it has extra staying power because of all the hype surrounding it: the plagiarism allegations with Katy Perry’s “Roar,” the plentiful mash-ups, the heartwarming duets. I’m taking on 2014 with the inspiration this song gives me every time I hear it.
7. Anna Kendrick’s “Cups”
This song will remain popular probably forever, because people will continue to try to master the cups routine. Plus we’ll have to keep re-watching Pitch Perfect until the sequel comes out in 2015. Aca-awesome.
8. Macklemore and Mary Lambert’s “Same Love”
Not gonna lie, I was so over “Thrift Shop” that I almost forgot how much I like Macklemore when he released “Same Love” and it made me remember. This song will remain popular because of its musical qualities and because of the lyrics’ message. It is all the same love!
9. Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel”
You don’t even have to like country to love this song. It is the type of ballad everyone at the bar sings along to when it comes on. I think I’ve even sung it aloud in an elevator on accident. It’s like the most sing-along-able song ever.
10. Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”
I sincerely hope Miley decides to wear more clothing in 2014 than she did in this music video, but regardless, I think this song will stay mainstream. I wanted to hate it, I really did, but the metaphors are just so emotional you can’t help but get attached to it.
