I knew Ben Affleck had been cast as Nick Dunne in the highly anticipated movie version of Gillian Flynn’s suspenseful novel, Gone Girl, but actually seeing one of my favorite books of 2013 come to life is an excitement I was unprepared for. Mostly because the core of the story is about one of the most dysfunctional relationships of all time, and I felt kind of bad about getting giddy over it. I mean, the photo alone is depicting a particularly gut-wrenching and suspenseful part of the story, because the reader/viewer doesn’t know anything yet (SPOILER ALERT: like, for instance, that Amy’s a bit of a psychopath who fakes her own murder and knocks herself up so there’s no need to feel sorry for her) Either way, I think Ben Affleck was a great choice for the role of Nick Dunne.

This movie also boasts quite the supporting cast: Neil Patrick Harris, Missi Pyle, Tyler Perry, Casey Wilson, and Emily Ratajkowski are starring in it as well, and Reese Witherspoon is one of the producers (just saving you time and the effort of clicking on your IMDB app immediately after reading this). Rosamund Pike, whom I only know as the really pretty Bennett sister from Pride and Prejudice, will be playing Amy.
I’m actually glad they went with a non A-list actress for the role – I like going into movies with no expectations regarding performance, because I usually wind up pleasantly surprised. The character of Amy is somewhat of a juxtaposition of complicated and shallow, not to mention sociopathic, and I for one can’t wait to see the trailer. Hopefully it won’t be as misleading as some recent trailers I might mention… cough… AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY.
