Merry day after Christmas, everybody! Did you watch the Disney Christmas Day Parade on TV yesterday? If not, you missed a pretty fantastic performance from Demi Lovato. She sang “Let it Go” from the new movie Frozen while standing on a stage in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland. It was like a magical Disney explosion. I’ve had a lot of praiseworthy things to say about Frozen lately, and this performance is like the cherry on top of a delicious bowl of ice cream. Get it? Ice cream? Because Frozen. Yeah, you get it.
“Let it Go” is definitely the best song from the film. It’s sung by the snow queen Elsa, who’s voiced by Idina Menzel. Demi also recorded her own version of the song for the film’s soundtrack, and even though I’m a Demi fan I had to name Idina’s version the winner. Buuut now that I’ve heard Demi sing the song live… I still prefer the Idina version. Wait, I’m not finished! I also have a newfound appreciation for Demi’s version, and for Demi herself as a singer. Unlike a lot of her fellow pop stars these days, Demi can totally pull off an incredible live performance. It starts out a little shaky, but by the end she’s belting it out like a total pro. The fireworks that go off behind her are totally appropriate.
So nibble on some leftover Christmas cookies, nurse your good cheer hangover, and watch a former Disney star sing a song from a new Disney movie in front of an iconic Disney landmark on a TV network owned by Disney. Does Disney just own the entire holiday of Christmas at this point? It’s certainly starting to look that way.
