If anyone is capable of throwing shade and being generous and fabulous at the same time, Beyonce is. Â Last night she surprised a bunch of Walmart shoppers by not only showing up in an actual Walmart store, but also showering each customer in the store with $50 gift cards! Â Now I hear you thinking, “wait, didn’t she say something about ‘throwing shade’?” YES. Â YES I DID. Â The best part about all of this isn’t that everyone got to see their favorite Christmas angel in the flesh AND receive presents from her. Â The best part is this move was most likely a response to Target’s decision to not carry her new album. Â But Walmart still is, so #TakeThatTarget.
In a recent statement, Target’s spokesperson explained why the store refuses to sell Beyonce’s amazing new album:
“At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections. While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new self-titled album ‘Beyonce.’”
An interesting PR move for Target for sure, as they have a lot of bad press going on at the moment thanks to the millions of checking accounts that were hacked into (got a notification from my bank yesterday about my own account – Merry Christmas from Target XOXOXO). Well, Target, Beyonce will see your cold shoulder and raise you $37,500 spent at your biggest competitor’s store. Â It’s probably the best response to something of this nature I’ve ever seen. Â And I’ve seen exactly zero similar situations, thankyouverymuch.
Merry Christmas from Santayonce, everyone!
