I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I. Love. Movie. Trailers. When the green “approved for all audiences” screen comes up in the movie theater, while everyone else is sighing and looking at their watches, I’m holding back the desire to clap my hands in glee. Not only do I enjoy previewing upcoming movies I might want to see, but the whole movie trailer art form fascinates me. So obviously I love to see trailers mashed up. And since it’s December and we’ve reached Year-End Compilation City, there’s already a great one out there to enjoy from YouTube editor The Sleepy Skunk.
This mashup does not disappoint. It edits together clips from every movie trailer released for 2013 into one mega-trailer that clocks in at almost seven minutes. If you’re a frequent moviegoer and trailer-watcher, you know that a good trailer doesn’t necessarily make for a good film. This mashup definitely shows that. There are a lot of critically panned movies on here (Burt Wonderstone, anyone?) that end up looking pretty great when edited stylishly and accented by great music. While watching, there will definitely be more than one instance where you go, “Oh right, that movie came out this year. I totally forgot.”
You’ll also probably feel a whole lot of emotions while watching. The video goes through various stages of emotional tones, from adrenaline-pumping action movie moments to silly slapstick to quiet, pensive bits. It really shows the number of themes and feelings that movies — and their trailers — can express. On top of all that, it’s just really impressively edited with just the right music for each tone. I’ll warn you now that you’ll probably want to click replay as soon as it finishes, in case there’s something you need to get done right now.
