Let’s go ahead and place this cover art for John Mayer and Katy Perry’s single “Who You Love” for John’s album Paradise Valley alongside getting tattoos of people’s names and drinking coffee before bed onto the list of things nobody ever regrets. Oh wait, sorry. Sometimes I get this thing where I say the exact opposite of what I mean. John and Katy are totally going to regret this. Unfortunately you can’t go all “Wino Forever” on a single cover.
John shared the cover on his Instagram account, writing, “Proud of this song, proud of this artwork, proud of this girl.” He also posted it on his Tumblr page (wow, he is going to extra-extra-regret this), adding, “And yes, we look like this at home pretty much all the time.” Oh wow, this is even worst than I thought. It’s like when stars gush about how wonderful their significant other is to a magazine and then two days after the issue gets released they break up. We all know that pretty much every celebrity relationship is doomed from the start. When are celebrities going to realize it?
What makes this even more ridiculous is that you can totally see how horribly this whole relationship is going to go by just listening to the very song the album art promotes. We already had a chance to go all Da Vinci Code on the lyrics a few months ago. Basically it involves John Mayer saying he wanted to get as far away from Katy as possible but then just gave up. And then Katy Perry uses her verse to admit that yeah, John’s kind of the worst, but she wants to date him anyway. How oh so romantic.
Let’s not forget that these two have broken up before. Let’s also not forget that John Mayer is a grade-A douchebag, which I’m pretty sure is quite high on the list of things that cause break-ups. I hope they’re ready for this cover to be featured in every article written about their impending break-up. While we wait for the official announcement, let’s listen to the duet that will soon become the theme song of said break-up.
