I have always and will forever love Sex and the City, and so will reviewers on Amazon. Carrie Bradshaw is such an iconic character that she is pretty much a household name. Played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Carrie talked viewers through dating, sex, fashion, life in New York City and of course, friendship. Her relationships with Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) were not just about being gossipy “ladies who lunch,” though they do a lot of gossiping and I don’t know how their jobs offer such long lunch breaks. The women had deep connections that held steady throughout the break ups, job losses, money problems and fashion mishaps – if you’ve seen the early years, you know what I’m talking about.
As a young woman living in New York City, the show may have given me slightly unrealistic expectations as to the size of my apartment and the shoes I’d be able to afford, but it taught me so many life lessons that it’s forgiven. Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) were as on-again, off-again as some notorious celebrity couples, but ultimately their relationship prevailed and I think the world is a better place for it. E!, keep playing those re-runs.
I’m not the only one who can watch episodes of Sex and the City over and over again. These extremely dedicated fans declared their love for Carrie and the crew on Amazon:
The reviewer who calls her own sister a “nut.” I guess drooling on a DVD case does seem a little nutty, though plenty of Carrie’s shoes are indeed drool-worthy.
The reviewer who loves the show so much that buying the complete series was the best money she’s ever spent – second place was probably the SATC bus tour in New York. I’ll bet my knock-off Manolos she got a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery.
The reviewer who is so obsessed with the show she stays up past her bedtime to watch it. I don’t think she could hack it staying out late partying and sleeping with men like Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte do, but living vicariously through a TV show comes close. Kind of. Not really.
The reviewer who didn’t support Carrie’s move to Paris with Aleksandr Petrovsky (Mikhail Baryshnikov) but loves Samantha’s hunky boyfriend, Smith Jarrod (Jason Lewis). There’s room for lots of sex on this show, but only one city.
The reviewer who sums his love up in the title line by labeling it “Perfection.” I don’t know how you can look at Miranda’s wardrobe in the early seasons and think, “Perfection!” but I guess some women love suits…and overalls?
