We at Crushable have a lot of girl crushes. It’s kind of right there in our name. Being twenty-something women, a lot of our favorite ladies are also in their twenties. They’re people like Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, whom we want to kidnap and make our best friends. There are of course plenty of women on our girl crush lists who are a decade or two older, like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who represent everything we hope we are when we’re their age — at least for me.
But what about the ladies of the next generation? The women who could reasonably be our moms or our aunts or our mom’s fun friends. The women a lot of our moms probably loved when they were our age, even if the term “girl crush” hadn’t been invented yet. Those women still have all the qualities we love in our favorite Hollywood women, with the added bonus that we can bond with our moms over our obsession with them.
They’re women like Goldie Hawn, who turns 68 today. In honor of Goldie, let’s take a look at fourteen other Hollywood women both you and your mom can love. We’ve already told you what your mom’s crush crush says about your crush, so it’s about time we talk about girl crushes.
1. Goldie Hawn
Let’s start with the birthday girl herself. Goldie was one of the original “manic pixie dream girls,” before that term was even coined. She won an Oscar for playing a quirky character in 1969′s Cactus Flower and went on to star in plenty of silly rom-coms and chick flicks. If you want to have a fun time with your mom, sit down and watch Private Benjamin.
2. Meryl Streep
Everybody loves Meryl Streep. It’s just a law. She practically has a spot reserved for her in the Best Actress category at every Oscars ceremony, yet she comes across as so humble and sweet, even when she wins. She pulls off Taylor Swift’s surprise face in a non-annoying way. She’s the kind of lady you just want to have a glass of wine with and giggle.
3. Diane Keaton
Speaking of drinking wine and giggling, enter Diane Keaton. Did you see when she and Ellen DeGeneres talked about tantric sex earlier this year? If not, do yourself a favor and watch immediately. There’s a good chance your mom wore men’s ties in the seventies because of Diane and Annie Hall. And let’s face it, the tomboy look is always in style.
4. Sally Field
Sally Field is still as adorable as she was when she played Gidget. She’s put in amazing performances in movies like Norma Rae and Forrest Gump, and last year she reminded us what a powerhouse she still is in Lincoln. She also reminded us that she has a great sense of humor when she did a great bit with Seth MacFarlane at the Oscars.
5. Oprah Winfrey
Sure, Oprah is a little out-of-touch when it comes to non-rich-people stuff. But there’s a good chance your mom still swears by her favorite things or her book club recommendations. And did you see her when she slapped Andy Cohen that time? Oprah can let loose.
6. Susan Sarandon
There’s no denying that Susan Sarandon is an amazing actress. She will forever be Marmie in Little Women for me. She also happens to be a whole lotta fun. For instance, she starred in the now classic “Motherlover” digital short and talked about sex with Wendy Williams that one time. Oh, she’s also working on a comedy pilot with her daughter. Talk about a great bonding experience.
7. Carrie Fisher
Carrie is Princess Leia no more. She’s been open about her past addictions and her bipolar disorder, as well as relationship with her mom Debbie Reynolds, which inspired the book Postcards from the Edge and then a movie starring fellow mom crush Meryl Streep. Watch that movie with your mom immediately. Oh, and did I mention Carrie played Liz Lemon’s hero on 30 Rock? She’s pretty great.
