Need another reason why Jimmy Fallon is the best late night talk show host on television right now? Last night on Late Night he let Harrison Ford pierce his ear in front of an audience. Harrison himself wears an earring, because you don’t play Han Solo and Indiana Jones without getting a badass earring to grow old with. I’m pretty sure it was written into his contracts. I’m also betting he’s a big fan of The Parent Trap, because this video is pretty much a shot for shot remake, minus the whole “let’s switch accents and get our parents back together” part. Come to think of it, though, maybe that’s what Jimmy’s accent-switching bit with Paul McCartney was all about. Oh my God, you guys, is Jimmy Fallon recreating The Parent Trap in stages on his show without anyone noticing?!
While you ponder that idea, let’s talk about the video at hand. Jimmy teased the segment on Twitter and Instagram before it aired, so clearly I was super excited to finally watch it. And it didn’t disappoint. It also didn’t cut away when the needle went through Jimmy’s ear lobe, so if you’re squeamish when it comes to giant needles piercing adorable talk show hosts’ ears, look away. As I just said, Harrison chose to go the needle route rather than the piercing gun route, which already makes this video ten times grittier than the time Kathy Griffin did the same thing to Aubrey Plaza on her talk show. It’s also grittier because Harrison Ford’s gritty level is already far higher than Kathy Griffin’s due to being Harrison Ford. Sorry, Kath.
The best part of this video is the moment when Harrison takes a pen and marks the spot on Jimmy’s ear where the hole will go, and Jimmy screams bloody murder as if the piercing is actually happening. Like when you were little and you had a splinter in your finger and your mom tried to pull it out with tweezers but every time she got too close you bawled as if she’d just cut your finger off. In this scenario Jimmy is a little kid and Harrison Ford is his mom.
