If you haven’t figured out your Halloween costume yet, you have a couple options. You can go buy one of those prepackaged costumes like sexy police officer, sexy witch, or sexy Dorothy Gale with the skirt so short it ruins childhood memories of The Wizard of Oz for everyone. Or you can try to make one out of the clothes and supplies you already have but you’ll probably end up with something like ninja or Person Wearing Pajamas. Or you can combine the stuff you already have with a new purchase of something that’s on trend this season (by which I mean, readily available everywhere) and make one of the costumes below.
And, hey, if you must you can still be a little sexy a la the pre-made costumes if you choose to go with Miley Cyrus As Skanky Michael Jordan. (You’ll see…)
Trend: Leather Jogging Pants
Costume: Kanye West
“Who’s known more for fashion than me?” said Kanye West when on Jimmy Kimmel a couple weeks ago. There are actually A LOT of answers to that question, but there was another notable part of Kanye’s fashion rant: his mention of leather jogging pants. And by mention, I mean he claimed to have invented them only to have his idea shot down by Fendi. But now look, leather jogging pants are everywhere! Coincidence? He thinks not. Grab yourself a pair of faux (or pleather, if you don’t cringe at that word) pants, add on a sweatshirt and maybe some sort of long trench coat, sunglasses, and attach a fake baby to yourself. Boom! Kanye costume! And you can still use the pants later. They actually can look pretty cool.
Trend: Floral Dresses
Costume: Your Fave ’90s TV Character
90s-looking floral dresses are really, really, really easy to find whether it’s at a thrift store or Forever 21 if you wanna commit to that $20 splurge. Kelly Osbourne‘s fiance (yes, a man!) already beat you to it, but I think a Blossom costume is still a cool idea. You can be any of your favorite ’90s TV characters though– they all wore them. Pair the dress with a crazy hat, a nerdy socks and shoes combo, or a denim vest.
Costume: Justin Bieber Meeting The Prime Minister
We’ve already told you guys all about how overalls can actually look pretty cute, so if you were considering buying a pair, go for it because Justin Bieber Meeting The Canadian Prime Minister is an amazing costume idea. All you have to do is wear the overalls with a white tee, a backwards cap (the bigger, the better) and attach a mini Canadian flag over your shoulder. Alternatively, you could do a couples costume and have a friend dress up as the Prime Minister waving the flag in disgust.
Trend: Faux Fur
Costume: Celebrity Being Attacked By PETA
You can be any celebrity you want with this one as several have been attacked– or creatively asked to change their ways?– by PETA. Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, the choice is yours. Or just be no celeb in particular. All you need is a faux-fur jacket covered in flour (if it can be easily washed) or you can leave the jacket clean and smear fake blood on your face and hair. Pair it with oversized sunglasses, a large handbag, and stilettos.
Trend: Athletic Wear
Costume: Athlete Of Your Choice or Miley Cyrus
Buy an actual jersey or one of those t-shirts with jersey-style numbers on them that are everywhere these days and go as either an ambiguous baseball/basketball/football/soccer player or a specific one of your choosing. You’ll just need to add the appropriate bat/shorts/under eye black glare reducing strip things/shin guards. Another option here is to find a bunch of old Chicago Bulls gear, style them in the most skankilicious way possible and go as Miley Cyrus. That girl must’ve really liked watching Michael Jordan when she was so young that she couldn’t possibly remember watching Michael Jordan.
Trend: Army Jacket, Combat Boots
If you’re noticing a ’90s theme all up in here, you aren’t mistaken. Many a fashion magazine will tell you that “the ’90s are back.” While I may have been in denial before, the fact that the pop culture costumes most clearly connected to nearly all of these trends is something 90s-related, says that it must be true. Trends or no trends, Daria is awesome and a Daria costume is easy to create. Army green jacket plus combat boots plus black skirt plus huge glasses equals Daria. I only ask you one thing: please have a friend dress up as Jane.
