Have you done anything truly useful today? Don’t worry if you haven’t, I barely have. I mean I cleared my desk of poppy seeds after the bagel that I ate this morning, and I pretty much called it a day after that. But luckily, 5:00 did not arrive and depart with me doing something meaningful with my life — watching this a capella version of the evolution of Beyonce.
It’s created by the group that won The Sing Off, in case you spent any time watching that show. They’re called Pentatonix and I just fell in love with them a little bit. Or a lot bit, because this video is amazing. They made it because they reached half a million likes on Facebook, so I’ma need everyone to go like them so we get even more of these. There are only five people in the group, but they have an incredibly full sound and super smooth transitions from song to song. It’s amazing. Flawless. I can’t stop listening to it.
The evolution starts with Bey’s early stuff, even some Destiny’s Child songs like ‘Bills’ and ‘Say My Name’ and moves through her career with hits like ‘Crazy In Love’, ‘Irreplaceable’, straight into and through Sasha Fierce territory to ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘If I Were A Boy’ and ‘Love On Top’ and even songs like ‘Grown Woman‘ that have been released from her as-yet unreleased album. Guys, they do twenty-eight songs in five and a half minutes. It’s insane.
