Taylor Swift Fought For Her New Song, Because Even Her Management Wanted Her Off The Radio

Taylor Swift’s new song “Sweeter Than Fiction” for the upcoming movie One Chance about Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts (yeah, I don’t know either) might not have happened at all, according to Taylor’s latest comments to the BBC. Apparently this story that I didn’t even know existed touched her so much that she fought against her bossy management to record it.

“I had to fight to do this because I try to take a break in between albums and try and give people a minute to not hear me on the radio,” she said.

“I had to go around and ask people, ‘Can I please, please put something out?’ even though we’re supposed to be going quiet.”

I imagine her pleading involved a lot of eyelash fluttering and jam-bribing. Apparently even Taylor’s own people were basically like, “Meh, we’ve been hearing ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ about ten too many times every day, so maybe give it a rest for like, a really long time? Also you’re not ’22′ anymore, so let’s retire that one.” Okay, so they didn’t say that exactly, but they might as well have, the tyrants!

“My management, my label were like, ‘No new music until the next album comes out.’ Then I saw the movie and I was like, ‘I have to be a part of this.’”

Way to fight the power and stay in the spotlight, Taylor Swift! I initially had my hands all raised and ready to give you a vigorous round of applause for admitting that the public might need some time off from you and your painfully catchy tunes, and I was about to suggest you have a heart to heart with Justin Timberlake about the concept. But then I had to lower them because you broke your own rule. But I guess Pol Pot Mrs. Potts Polly Pocket Paul Potts just inspired you so much you couldn’t resist.

Remind yourself of the song Taylor fought to record below. Personally, it’s already firmly taken root in my head and I don’t think it’ll be leaving for at least three days, at which point “Roar” will take back its rightful position.
