This Jennifer Garner Humblebrag Is My New Favorite Thing Ever

Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey attending Dallas Buyers Club premiere at TIFF September 2013Lest you think for even a moment that Jennifer Garner might be too pretty to be taken seriously in your movie, please cast your eyes upon this epic new humblebrag and allow it to convince you otherwise. As a bonus, it’s one of my new favorite things I’ve ever read.

Jennifer was speaking to People Magazine about her involvement with Dallas Buyers Club, and looks understandably came up, because her costar Matthew McConaughey lost a seriously incredible amount of weight to do the role. But even though Jennifer didn’t have to do anything drastic, diet-wise, we all have our sacrifices to make. Jen’s just happened to be struggling to be ugly enough to even do the movie:

“I am not someone who is driven by vanity. Even in ways that I should be. I’m not very good at the whole vanity thing. But I did love that [director] Jean-Marc Vallée came to me and said, ‘I don’t want you to look pretty.’ He almost didn’t give me the job because he just assumed . . . and I said, ‘I don’t care. Never touch my face with makeup. I don’t care.’ And he didn’t. I never sat in the makeup chair.”

I’m sorry, I’d just love it if you could finish that sentence you trailed off on, if you don’t mind. He just assumed what? I love this humble brag so much, I can’t get enough of it. “Don’t worry! I can be in your movie! I’m slightly less incandescent if you don’t put make up on my face, I promise. I mean will I still blow you away? Yes. But it won’t be as distracting from the plotline as you expect.”

And her face wasn’t the only thing that slummed it on that set. She apparently went full undercover gorgeous person with the costumes, too. INCOGNITO BREAST-FEEDING SUPERMODEL.

“The clothes were from Goodwill. It’s not like they were from a fancy vintage store or made to look vintage. They were straight up Goodwill, and I had this little baby. So, when I was in costume fittings, it was about, like, ‘How can I get to my boobs?’ And so I just could have cared less. It was great for me.”

Don’t get me wrong, I actually really love Jennifer Garner — but when I come across a quote this amazing, I have to take full advantage. #nodisrespecttojennifergarner #alldisrespecttojimmykimmel

        That family is hashtag-sacred.

It’s hard to be so pretty. It’s why I became a blogger. So my beauty wouldn’t blind everyone every day.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

That’s Jenni, always thinking of others.

If one reads that generously, it might mean that she thought he assumed she wouldn’t WANT not to look pretty–whence the “I don’t care”

Yeah I think you’re probably right. But I love it either way.

She’s not into “vanity”? So that explains why she has collagen pumped into her naturally tiny top lip right? I guess in her fake “I’m a granola living in L.A.” lifestyle, she doesn’t realize we can google her top lip.

If her director looked at any pap pics of her, he’d know she really doesn’t care to look pretty all the time. She’s makeup free in most pics. I dig her bc she’s so down to earth.

I do too, I just loved this interview too much not to put it up.
