I feel like a pop culture Paul Revere right now, because all I want to do is get on a horse and ride through the streets shouting, "Tina and Amy are coming! Tina and Amy are coming!" And that's for one reason and one reason only — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are returning to host the mother effing Golden Globes next year. It was just announced!
After their incredible success at the 2013 Golden Globes, and even though they'd been asked back, nobody was sure if they'd return for 2014. We were all just sitting around with our fingers and toes crossed, wishing on daisies and lucky pennies and anything we could get our hands on…and we must be even more powerful than we thought, because it worked out better than I could have possibly dreamed.
In addition to signing on for this year's broadcast, airing January 12th, 2014, the magical Tina and Amy duo have signed on to host next year as well! Oh. Oh my god. I think I may honestly need to lie down for a while, because my heart is going all pitter-patter with excitement. I haven't been this thrilled since I found out John Krasinski and Emily Blunt were expecting a baby, and even then the feeling won't come close unless they're somehow having twins that are born a year apart and will make me laugh at two separate awards shows. I don't know what I'm saying right now, so I'm gonna let some official-speak take over.
Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Theo Kingma has his words slightly more together, and this is his version of the shouty announcement that I just made:
“We are thrilled Amy and Tina have decided to return as hosts of the Golden Globe Awards for the next two years. Their return ensures that the Golden Globes will once again be the biggest, best and most entertaining awards celebration of the year.”
The only thing that makes me sliiiightly nervous is that I feel like the two of them were so perfect last year that I can't imagine them improving on it. But then I remember that these are two of the ballsiest, most hilarious ladies out there, and I have nothing to worry about. They both managed to keep their respective shows hilarious for multiple seasons — Tina with 30 Rock and Amy with Parks And Rec — so I should give them a little more credit for making one night hilarious, right? If I'm being honest with myself, these two are so funny and honest and likable and quick on their feet that I would watch them just stand around and chat with each other for three hours, awards be damned.
Basically what I'm saying is if these two think they can do it, then I know they can do it. So hold onto your socks, you guys, because this is gonna be the best two years in history. I GUARANTEE IT.
