Robin Thicke Blames Miley Cyrus For The VMAs Performance, Reminds Us That He’s The Worst

Robin Thicke Oprah interview 2013

You know those balloons in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” video that spell out “ROBIN THICKE HAS A BIG D”? It’s becoming abundantly clear that the H and A balloons should just be replaced with an I. First he waited weeks to comment on the VMAs controversy with Miley Cyrus, and when he did finally respond it was the epitome of douchiness. Now he’s on Oprah’s Next Chapter talking about the issue again, and this response is even worse, because he totally throws Miley under the bus. Just spins around like he’s playing shot put with her half-naked body and hurls her under the nearest Greyhound bus or school bus or double decker bus — any kind of bus will do.

Robin explains that he was just an innocent bystander who has no culpability in the whole situation, despite the fact that he admitted to rehearsing the performance with the goal to get people talking and was also depicted rehearsing with Miley in her recent MTV documentary.

“Well, I was on stage, I didn’t see it, you know. So to me, I’m walking out towards Miley, I’m not thinking ‘sex,’ I’m thinking ‘fun.’ So I’m sitting there, I’m looking up to the sky, I’m singing. I’m not really paying attention to all that. That’s on her.”

How apropos that Robin would actually utter the phrase “that’s on her” when that’s exactly the kind of double standard Miley Cyrus just complained about on Ellen DeGeneres’ show. It’s very amusing that Robin would have us think he didn’t know Miley intended to make the performance sexual when he already admitted they planned things like rubbing the foam finger on his crotch. I never thought Robin Thicke would give Taylor Swift a run for her money in the “playing the victim card” department, but here we are.

He then makes sure to coin the term “twerkee” and explain his role in the performance in a statement dripping with misogyny.

“I’m like, ‘Listen, I’m the twerkee. I’m twerked upon. I don’t twerk myself, okay? I’m just twerked upon.’”

Remember this moment, my friends. It’s the moment that a 20-year-old who can’t keep her tongue in her mouth beat a 36-year-old married father in the maturity department. Miley Cyrus is always willing to take credit for her actions. Here I was thinking that was just impressive when compared to the behavior of her peers like Justin Bieber. Apparently it’s also impressive when compared to supposed grown-ups.

The full interview airs this Sunday at 9 PM ET on OWN.

After seeing the whole interview, in full context, it doesn’t come across like he was throwing her under the bus, he mentions the rehearsal and other things. Now that it’s aired, maybe you’d like to check it out to get the full perspective. It really doesn’t sound that bad when you have more than 44 seconds to go on!
