Norwegian duo Ylvis went on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night to perform their song “The Fox” and also to add someone else to the list of talk show hosts they’ve convinced to wear a fox costume. Ellen DeGeneres simply wasn’t enough. I don’t think they’ll be satisfied until they’ve gotten every host in America to dance around with a tail. And I thank them for it. I also thank them for finally teaching me what the fox says. I always figured it said “Cheerio, ol’ chap,” but apparently that was just that one fox I saw when I was lost in the woods. That was an interesting day…
Anyway, back to Ylvis. They performed a “live music video” of sorts on the show, recreating the now infamous video that made us all turn to the first person we could find and ask, “You see that too, right?” While it’s Jimmy Fallon’s cameo as a fox that really made this performance for me, it’s also pretty fantastic in general. The more I hear this song, the more I love it. I love the tune, I love the simplicity of the message, I love that it teaches me things. And most of all I love that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Too many people take themselves too seriously these days. Mostly Kanye West. But also other people. So it’s nice to see that some people still exist in the world who are willing to dress as woodland creatures and jump up and down singing nonsense words for my amusement.
Watch the joyous performance below. It’s everything you didn’t know you wanted. Or maybe you did know you wanted it and you’ve been waiting for this moment your whole life. Either way, you’ll love it.
