Dumb And Dumber To Start Filming Despite Jeff Daniels’ Emmy

Whoever would’ve thought we’d eventually live in a world where one of the stars of the movie Dumb & Dumber would have an Emmy? And that it’d be Jeff Daniels, of all people? Not that Jeff isn’t great, but if you’d asked me back in 1994 which of the two of them was more likely to have an impressive career, I would’ve said Jim Carrey, right? Isn’t that the obvious choice? I also would’ve said they’d never feel the need to make a sequel to that movie and title it Dumb And Dumber To, though, so that proves what I know.

But here we are, in the year 2013, and everything is different now. Dumb And Dumber To has just started filming, Jeff Daniels has an Emmy for his portrayal of Will McAvoy on HBO’s The Newsroom and Jim Carrey has a gently stagnating career and hasn’t done a movie I remember since…Yes Man? In 2008? Yowza. Whod’ve thunk?

In the interest of putting it all on the table, this is also the moment where I reveal that I haven’t seen the movie. So…I, uh…haven’t seen the movie. Now you make all kinds of incredulous noises and annoyed gestures, and we splutter back and forth at each other for fifteen minutes with a lot of ‘but’ ‘why’ and ‘how’. Don’t worry about all that, because I’m about to save you some time, here — any reaction that you have to the fact that my eyes have not beheld this cinematic masterpiece? I promise you, I’ve heard it before.

So bottom line, no, I’m not super nostalgic about the sequel to a movie that every eighth grade guy in my class was obsessed with. Sorry about that. What I am is surprised that they’re legally allowed to even film it now that one of the stars has been given the prestigious Emily Award. Maybe Jim should chip some other teeth so we can still take the movie (un)seriously? Just throwing out ideas here.

So you’ve never heard of Kick-Ass 2 and all the non-press Jim didn’t give it cause of his stance on gun laws? And you write for the Internet? Ohhhh, that was just a clever jab at the career of someone who is successful, and also so you can play up the recent award of the other guy… Cause apparently Jim Carrey isn’t more successful…. Right. All that money he made for himself and the studios over the last 25 years is far less important then an Emmy huh? Do you know the industry? Forget that Jim decided to scale back on acting around 2007 cause he lost his desire, cause that’s what you did.

Just think before you publish, it’s that simple.

    • Olivia Wilson

How can you be upset at anything when Jim is sporting that jazzy asymmetrical bowl cut up there? Just how?

    • Evelz6

What does that have anything to do with the poor writing in this article? People, especial ignorant people, should be held accountable.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Thank you for holding me accountable. This is my editor, yes? I’m just confused because you didn’t come into work today and you’re only talking to me online via comments on a post I wrote. Please advise.

    • Evelz6

Apparently you didn’t come into work, hell apparently your “editor” didn’t come into work today either. You should both quit and find something more constructive to do with your time.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

But then how would we make time for these loving heart-to-hearts with you?

  • The Redhead

I can’t imagine anything more torturous to sit through than either of these movies. Any time I see a grown person singing the praises of basically what amounts to two hours of poop humor, I have to question their intelligence level.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Yeah I love when people are willing to throw up their own red flags in conversations so I don’t have to dig them up on my own.

    • Evelz6

It helps to know what you’re even talking about to begin with. What does your opinion even matter if you have no experience? It means nothing. I came for the picture and stopped reading your error filled and misinformed opinion pretty quick. You should have passed on this and given ito someone else or made the most of it. You brought attention to a film people like just to bash it, what response do expect or hope for here exactly?

Forget about the movie, it’s irrelevant now in this case. You should be ashamed at how you are precived online. Don’t give me that “I don’t care how I look” crap, you’re a “reporter” or blogger, you should care cause your credibility is nil otherwise. If this is how you are going to go about your writing, you should just stop now.

I bet you did book reports in school without even readin the book too…

    • Alexis Rhiannon

I don’t know if you did ‘stop reading pretty quick(ly)’, because you were able to reference my mention of ‘the prestigious Emily Awards’ in another comment, which came pretty late in the post.

And you’re right, I never read books in school. I was much too busy watching critically-acclaimed movies like Dumb & Dumber.

    • Evelz6

I saw the “Emily” mistake just going back up to glance at the “article.”
You obviously don’t know how to review things, so I would guess you were wasting your time in other ways. I mean, if I published reviews I would be sure to know what in the hell I was talking about before hand. If everyone “reviewed” the way you do, we would all be mindless stupid drones with no opinion. Hell, were you even alive when this movie came out? If so, you had to have been like 4. ‘The Flintstones,’ ‘D2′ and ‘Street Fighter’ were probably more your speed.

Way to take ownership of your own obvious mistakes by finding a dodge and using sarcasm though…

    • Alexis Rhiannon

If it was a mistake, don’t you think I would have gone back to edit it after you so politely pointed it out?

And what do you imagine I’ve reviewed? What is it about this post that smacks of a review to you?

P.S. I was denied pop culture in the ’90s, so your references have no power here!

    • Evelz6

No, it’s called saving face. You won’t change it and you will act as if it’s intentional. The fact that you go online and state an opinion on something you have never seen before, it speaks volumes about the kind of person you are. Who does that?

When I see “articles” that look more like Facebook posts, it’s just a prime example of how diluted media/internet sites have become. I have a degree in film production and cinema. A film education, okay? When I see people talking about film, when they have no idea about it, I tend to speak up. While Dumb & Dumber is by far no Academy awarded flick, it’s also not the single cause for the dumbing down of America as you make it out to be. It was a 90′s romantic comedy spoof about two idiots, it was never meant to break new ground.

The fact that you were denied pop culture and you haven’t seen this film (probably cause of the above fact) equals you not being qualified to even have an opinion. The picture alone with some generic paragraph would have been enough to suffice. Instead you go on some error filled rant about a topic you are not even in the same planet on.

Bottom line… you talk about things like you know when you really don’t and you never did. It’s best to keep your opinions to yourself in a case like this, not publish them to the internet where people like me can call you out on them (despite your lack of care about your work, you’d rather be defesive).

    • Alexis Rhiannon

      This is a lot. Okay.

I stated from the beginning that I hadn’t seen the movie. I’m sorry that you didn’t like the post. You didn’t have to read it, let alone comment on it.

But to answer your question, the kind of person who writes posts like this is someone who is employed to do so, a category that I happen to fall into.

Congratulations on your degree and your early exposure to critically-acclaimed films. I am duly impressed.

And finally, I care about my work very much, or else I wouldn’t be engaging in a time-consuming conversation about it via the comments on one of my ‘articles’. (I’ll adopt your habit of putting that word in quotes, although I admit I find it baffling.)

    • Evelz6

That’s a pretty crappy what to make a living. A least be better at your job. If you have to write something up about ‘Dumb & Dumber’ at least take 1.5 hours out of your day to form an honest and valid opinion.

“” implies sarcasm when book ending a simple unquoted word online, you seem to know a lot about that. Shocked you don’t recognize it when you see it. ” this is book title punctuation, which can also be used for films.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

You have really good ideas for the best use of my time — please keep them coming.

    • CMc

      Bahaha. I love your snark.

P.S. I’m also confused about what part of this article was a review. I mean, “review.”

    • Evelz6

The review part comes from the fact that she is telling other people, who may not have seen ‘Dumb & Dumber,’ how horrible it is without ever having seen it herself. Is that too difficult to understand? Review/opinion. But go ahead and bahahah away, whatever that is.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

My goodness. All I’ve told anyone is that I haven’t seen it and I don’t want to, and I don’t always have the highest opinion of people who are obsessed with it. That’s all. You need to take it easy.

    • CMc

It’s bahaha. Not bahahah. And it’s called laughing. Specifically laughing at how unflappable Alexis is despite your best efforts to “shame” her over an article that not even in my most generous moment could be called a review.

Let me summarize this article for you in my own words. “Wow. Remember that movie “Dumb and Dumber?” It seemed kinda silly right? Hence the name? I can’t believe one of the actors won an Emmy. And it’s not Jim Carrey! Because he’s had the better career although not so much of late. Crazy! And they’re making a sequel! So unexpected! I mean it’s cool I guess if this was your favorite movie when you were in 8th grade. It wasn’t mine because I never saw it. But anywho. So maybe Jim Carrey will do the tooth chipping thing. Moving on.”

An article that references a movie is not equal to a movie review. This is not an if a is b and b is c then a must equal c kind of situation here. You are unbelievably exaggerating a rather benign, but amusing opinion article. An opinion a person is allowed to have even if they haven’t seen the movie. Because things called movie previews, plot synopses, and 8th graders quoting the movie from beginning to end is enough to form at least a preliminary opinion.

Also please quote the sentence that includes the word, “horrible” or any other related synonym in this article. You can’t, because it doesn’t exist.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

I want to humbly offer you my job. This is amazing.

    • CMc

Thanks! Can I quote you on that? Maybe my boss will give me a raise if I tell her I’m getting job offers. Ha!

    • Alexis Rhiannon

      Hahaha do it up!

    • Alexis Rhiannon

      Hurray! Thank you!

    • Evelz6

Somebody has to come up with ideas for the best use of your time, you’re obviously not using it very well.

Look at those adorable faces! They are cuter than teen idols! lol
