I’m ready to take my relationship with Amy Poehler to the next level. This is getting really serious, my friends. I’m thinking about ring-shopping. I know she just got divorced and she’s dating Nick Kroll and she’s busy planning perfect award show bits with Tina Fey. But if I could just rent a tiny little one bedroom apartment in her heart, I would be more than happy. The latest amazing Amy Poehler behavior that’s making me feel all the feelings about her? Her appearance on the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast, during which she freestyle raps about butter. What more could you ask for?
When challenged to come up with a freestyle rap about the classic toast spread, Amy’s mind naturally goes straight to Paula Deen. Where else would it go? I’m with you here, Amy. This leads her to making a few requisite Paula Deen racist jokes, and then all buttery hell breaks loose. She makes some interesting class commentary and says “America” emphatically a few times. But my favorite part is when she just starts saying random phrases about butter like “butter be good, butter be bad,” and the like. Then she brings it back around the Paula Deen again, because Amy is a professional hilarious person and she’s trained in constructing a well-rounded butter freestyle.
If you want a reason to laugh or smile or feel an overwhelming desire to stand outside Amy Poehler’s window holding a boombox over your head, listen to this recording. Amy’s bit starts at about the 4:40 mark, but if you want a complete butter rap experience, you can listen to Paul F. Tompkins take a crack at it in his best Alan Thicke voice. But be warned that there is quite a bit of cursing to be heard here. Quite a bit indeed. But let’s be honest, when you’re rapping about something as controversial as butter, things are bound to get a little foul-mouthed.
