I’ve never been a fan of Big Brother, but this, the show’s fifteenth season, has been particularly mesmerizing. There are not one, not two, but three outward racists on the show, who have made ignorant, offensive remarks about a variety of demographics including homosexuals, Asian-Americans, and African-Americans. They might have covered even more ground, but they were restricted by the fact that those were the only minority groups represented by their cast mates. A disappointing setback to bigots everywhere, I know.
But! As despicable as their behavior has been all season (you can find a full recap of their disgusting commentary here), tonight is the night that we all get to taste sweet sweet redemption.
Let me explain. The show’s finale airs tonight, at 9:30 on CBS, and up until the moment that the winner is chosen and announced, they’re all being sequestered away from the media. Since the show airs in real time, they all have to basically take a summer off from their real lives, and even after they’re evicted from the show they go to a house where they’re shielded from any outside news. SO THAT MEANS THE FINALISTS HAVE NO IDEA THEY’RE ALL FIRED FROM THEIR JOBS.
Yup! That’s right! The three finalists — GinaMarie Zimmerman, Spencer Clawson, and Andy Herren — have all been fired from their jobs for the comments they’ve been caught making on camera. In July, GinaMarie was let go from her job as a pageant coordinator because they didn’t appreciate her use of the n-word. And nor did anyone else, for that matter. Also in July, Spencer was fired from his job as a train conductor for making really tasteful child pornography jokes and praising Hitler, and unfortunately Andy (who apparently hasn’t been pretty tolerable all season) was just let go as a public speaking teacher because he supported other racists in the house. The specific comment that was seized on was when he didn’t object to GinaMarie referring to some of the evicted contestants as ‘robotic biracials’.
As a side note, evicted contestant Aaryn Gries was also fired from both of her jobs back home for saying some batshit racist stuff, although the excellent point has been made that she probably can’t be racist, because she was once photographed with a black guy.
[UPDATE: Want to watch the moment Aaryn first hears she lost her job? (Yes. You do.)]
But anyway, the hammer drops tonight! And I couldn’t be more psyched about it. These humans have spent the whole summer encouraging each others’ bad behavior, and now they have to come to terms with the fact that they’ve really effed things up for themselves. I love it, and I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.
Oh and there’s also the awarding of $500,000 part, I guess. But I couldn’t care less about that, at this point.
