One of my favorite things in pop culture these days — no, actually in the entire history of the entire world — is seeing David Beckham spend time with his daughter Harper Seven Beckham. Whether they’re making a sweet appearance on the kiss cam or sitting front row at Victoria Beckham’s fashion show, they never fail to give me a severe case of the warm and fuzzies. Even Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue and legendary symmetrical haircut-haver, couldn’t resist smiling adoringly at Harper during Fashion Week, as if she’d been dusted with fairy powder and placed under a spell of adorableness.
As it turns out, daddy David was worried Anna wouldn’t be quite so enchanted, since he told E! News he was afraid Harper would kick her. You can watch the video interview here, but if you don’t want to have your glorious, golden image of him disturbed by that mismatched voice of his, you can see the quote below.
“I was trying to keep Harper from…because she was standing up and she was sitting down, she was saying, ‘I like the pink dress. I like the white dress.’ Her legs were moving around and I thought, ‘I don’t want her to kick Anna.’ But Anna was so unbelievably sweet to her. She was so sweet to her. You know, she’s got children so she’s used to that.”
I find it hard to believe that anyone — even Anna Wintour — would be angry at little Harper for her rogue feet. Especially after she gave her adorable fashion opinions. In fact, if I were Anna Wintour, I’d probably hire Harper as a Vogue editor on the spot. But of course you never know what might have happened. Given Anna’s ice-cold reputation, things mightn’t have gone well. You probably heard those rumors that Miley Cyrus wasn’t allowed on the cover of Vogue after her VMAs fiasco. If twerking was indeed an issue, what would Anna think of kicking? Could she erase Harper’s name from the date in 2025 that I’m assuming Vogue has had reserved for her to be on the cover since she was conceived? It’s a good thing no kicking went down, although let’s make sure Anna Wintour doesn’t read this just to be safe.
