Oh man, talk about the perfect remedy for how burned out I’ve been feeling on Saturday Night Live, lately: apparently Tina Fey is slated to host the first episode of the season on September 28th!
The only rumors I’d heard so far were that Lindsay Lohan was gonna be hosting and that Miley Cyrus would be combination musical guesting and hosting, and I was super bummed about it. Basically I was preparing myself for an entire season of stunt-casting, and even the thought of one more week of evaluating Miley’s mental state felt totally exhausting.
But it turns out Miley isn’t hosting the first episode after all! She’s…hosting the second. But I have high hopes for my ability to handle that, because my belly will be so full of Tina Fey goodness that it will be hard for anything to turn my stomach. Even if Miley goes to the logical next step and removes all her skin in her next video, because that’s the only thing I can imagine that’s more provocative than total nudity.
I just love when people who used to be in the cast come back to host an episode. It’s so familiar and joyful, and they can do like a greatest hits version of their time there. Remember when Kristen Wiig was on? It was all her best characters, condensed down into an hour and a half, without any of the crappy content that less versatile performers get. Personally, I’m hoping to see a Sarah Palin impression, get a little of my Weekend Update jollies, and maybe even catch a glimpse of Amy Poehler. That’s my ideal, but I’m happy to get Tina in any form. Even if it’s just talking about how her daughter’s a sociopath.
Saturday Night Live will return on September 28th at 10:30pm, with Tina hosting and with musical guest Arcade Fire returning for their fourth (fourth!) performance on the program.
