Ever since Sunday night’s VMAs, it’s been “Miley Cyrus this” and “Miley Cyrus that.” That’s understandable, since she did manage to make the whole country simultaneously uncomfortable in a matter of minutes and has the Twitter record to show for it. But nobody’s talking about Lady Gaga. You could argue that’s because she’s sort of lost her edge and run out of ways to shock us, but her performance was still pretty noteworthy, if only for the fact that she changed her clothes like ten bazillion times in the span of five minutes. Heck, even that Smith family reaction shot turned out to actually be about Lady Gaga, even though in my head I’m still laughing at the idea of it being about Miley. Luckily a man named Jake Nodar realized that Gaga needed some VMAs love, so he took it upon himself to recreate her “Applause” performance in the best video you’ll watch all day.
Buzzfeed shared this gem along with a few GIF comparisons to the original, and I must say I’m very impressed. Jake chose to record his recreation while driving his car, which meant I spent the majority of the video on the edge of my seat concerned for his safety, but he keeps it together. Needless to say, please do not attempt this at home. Not only because he’s in a moving vehicle but because you’ll never come close to capturing the same joy and artistic beauty that Jake does in his performance. His dog Milton even gets in on the fun. Let me tell you, that pooch looks damn good in a blonde wig. And I’m not lying when I tell you that Milton claps in this video. Yes, a dog claps. You’ll have to see it to believe it.
On a related note, what’s the deal with all the car-related things going viral lately? There was that fantastic “Blurred Lines” Vine earlier this month, then the “Cups” Vine that Anna Kendrick shared. Are cars the new cats? The words are only one letter off, so it might be an easy transition for the Internet to make. What would Lil Bub think?
