Here’s The Trailer For The Movie Matthew McConaughey Lost All That Weight For

Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club preview August 2013Remember last year when we lost track of Matthew McConaughey after Magic Mike? I swear to god we only took our eyes off of him for one second, but by the time we looked back again, the shirtless, bongo-playing ab-brandisher was gone, and some sort of creepy, mustachioed skeleton on the mother of all juice cleanses had taken his place. He didn’t have much, if any body fat to lose after playing a longtime stripper, but he was somehow dropping weight like a crazy person, and for what?

Well, to play a man suffering from AIDS in a movie. That’s for what. These days, that represents kind of the triple whammy of acting work — you’re playing a real person, that person has a terminal illness, and you dramatically changed your appearance for the role. Bonus points for being a guy and dropping weight. We haven’t seen one of your kind round these parts since Christian Bale in The Machinist. I can practically smell the Academy Award on the  — no, Anne Hathaway! That’s very bad! You get out of here! Don’t you come sniffing around this Oscar, you have your own! Go back to your squares of dried oatmeal paste!

But anyway, after all those many months of looking like a hungry goblin, Matthew has finally found his way to a cheeseburger, and we have finally found our way to the first teaser trailer for the movie, Dallas Buyers Club, which is premiering in December 6th of this year. It’s based on a true story, and here’s the IMDb synopsis:

“The story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, and his search for alternative treatments that helped established a way in which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies.”

Looks pretty amazing to me, even though I can’t help getting the heebie-jeebies hearing that Matthew got down to 135 pounds for the role. That’s about fifteen pounds less than me, and I’m not a six-foot tall dude, suffice to say.

The film also stars Jennifer Garner, Steve Zahn, Denis O’Hare, and Jared Leto, who apparently not only lost a ton of weight for the movie, but shaved his eyebrows as well. So I guess that’ll be two Oscars, then, if you don’t mind. Thanks.

I think they should give him an Oscar made out of sandwiches.

I will also accept that award.
