Before you start to feel too sorry for Katy Perry, let me reassure you with the fact that the president of this great nation of ours is a pretty big fan of hers. Sure, she was dressed by a vengeful stylist last night who seemed to have been inspired by Miss Trunchbull from Matilda and then relegated to the Brooklyn Bridge for her VMA performance, but President Obama did tweet at her. So I think things kind of evened out.
That’s just the way things go in Katy’s life, y’know? Russell Brand says that being with her was like being a monk and breaks up with her via text message, but then her on-and-off relationship with John Mayer yields a sensual little love song, so hey! Silver lining! She’s accused of plagiarizing Sara Bareilles with her new song ‘Roar’ — it sounds suspiciously like Sara’s amazing song ‘Brave’ — but said song did beat Lady Gaga‘s ‘Applause’ when the two singles went head-to-head, so there you go!
But back to the point: last night after the Video Music Awards, Katy retweeted something that Obama’s Twitter account had posted about healthcare coverage becoming affordable for young people starting in October…which is great timing, because Miley Cyrus tried to get us all pregnant with her performance, and in the future I’ll be able to afford contraception so I can practice safe-watching. And seeing that she tweeted it, Obama’s account retweeted it, thanking her for getting the word out:

You guys. I can tell we’re finally in the future because our president knows how to hashtag. I mean sure, that Twitter account is almost definitely run by a really sassy intern, but isn’t it fun that it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Obama could slap a pound sign on something? This is it, guys, the space age. We’re doing it! #ROAR
