Are you ready to get your chilly old heart warmed up? For me to give it a good two minutes in the celebrity microwave and return it to your chest? I hope so, because I just found out that Sophie Turner real-life-adopted the dog who played her character’s direwolf, Lady, on Game Of Thrones.
Sophie plays Sansa Stark on the show, and as you know if you’ve watched the first season (spoiler alert immediately ahead), Cersei Lannister demands that Ned Stark kill his daughter’s direwolf after a misunderstanding about the animal attacking Joffrey. So since he did ultimately kill her, the Northern Inuit dog who played Lady had to be written off the show, and would have been adopted out to a home if Sophie hadn’t stepped in:
“Growing up I always wanted a dog, but my parents never wanted one. We kind of fell in love with my character’s dire wolf, Lady, on set. We knew Lady died and they wanted to re home her. My mum persuaded them to let us adopt her.”
They named the dog ‘Zunni’ and they all live happily together to this day! Now may I say, first of all, LOVE. This is the sweetest thing. My heart grew ten sizes today, so thank you Sophie.
And second of all, I had no idea that you could adopt CGI creatures, but this is 2013, so i guess anything is possible. Oop, my producer is now telling me in my ear that the role of Lady was played by an actual dog in most scenes, and it is actually possible to adopt living breathing dogs. Well whaddya know? You learn something new every day!
