Jimmy Fallon’s Daughter’s Name Has Geographical Origins, But Don’t Worry, It’s Adorable

Jimmy Fallon Golden Globes January 2013

One of the reasons Jimmy Fallon is so beloved is that he just seems like the most down-to-earth guy, even when he devotes an entire week on his show to hanging out with Justin Timberlake. That’s been especially true in the past few weeks as he’s spoken about his and his wife Nancy Juvonen’s newborn daughter Winnie Rose. There’s no game involved. He’s just like, “Hey guys, I’m a dad now! Wanna see a picture of my daughter? Look, she’s a GIF now!” He also continues to talk about her in the sweetest terms, and that continued in his Today Show interview this morning. Last week we got a preview of his talk with Savannah Guthrie, where he revealed that he and his wife used a surrogate. In the full interview he gave inspiring words to other couples trying to have children, telling them to “hang in there” because when it does happen “it’s so worth it.” He also revealed the meaning behind his daughter Winnie’s name, and you might be surprised it has geographical origins.

Don’t worry, though, Jimmy and Nancy didn’t just open an atlas, point their finger at a random page and say, “That’s what we’re naming her!” Jimmy explained that he and his wife got engaged at a lake house on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, where they had also visited while they were dating. As Jimmy clarified, “Winnipesaukee’s a little long” so they shortened it to Winnie. That’s the thing. They didn’t name her Winnepesaukee. Isn’t it refreshing to have a celebrity name his baby something that’s not only an actual human name but also has a meaning behind its uniqueness? And he didn’t just name her something ridiculous and then try to justify it afterward by being like, “Umm, north star, highest point, words that mean something, pay attention to me!” Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.

On top of all that, while they didn’t necessarily name her after the character, Jimmy said “Winnie Cooper is the coolest girl in any TV show ever,” so it doesn’t hurt. That’s true. You wouldn’t want to name your baby Maleficent or something. Now that I’ve typed that idea I’m sure a celebrity will actually use that name, and for that I am sorry. Oh, and did I forget to mention that Jimmy says Winnie’s also a “win” for them? I know, you thought it couldn’t get any sweeter and then I threw that out there. There’s adorable around every corner with this guy.
