15 Actresses Who Could Play Wonder Woman With Their Eyes Closed

In the midst of a summer inundated with superhero movies, there’s one that’s still missing from the fray. In the past year alone we’ve had Iron Man, Man Of Steel, Thor, The Avengers, The Wolverine, The Amazing Spider Man, and The Dark Knight Rises. All movies starring men, many with the word ‘man’ in the title, and yet there’s no new intel on the one female starring vehicle that we’ve heard of in the pipeline, the Wonder Woman movie. It’s been rumored to be in the works since 2005, a full eight years ago, and it’s getting to the point where maybe we have to acknowledge that Hollywood doesn’t even want it after all.

And yet! And yet! The Entertainment Chief of DC, Diane Nelson, says that the film has been one of the ‘top three priorities’ at the studio for a while now, but that it hasn’t gone anywhere because, “She doesn’t have the single, clear, compelling story that everyone knows and recognizes. There are lots of facets to Wonder Woman, and I think the key is, how do you get the right facet for that right medium? …she’s tricky.”

She’s tricky. That covers a whole lot of bases, from costume concerns to wariness about tarnishing the character’s image, to my favorite, casting issues. According to, Mirren Lee, a writer and casting director on a past, failed iteration of the script, “I think they have never solved the casting problem (so many people to please) and more importantly, they haven’t been able to decide on which Wonder Woman to portray.”

So instead of waiting to introduce her until the penciled-in 2017 Justice League movie and hoping that the character is strong enough to inspire her own franchise, let’s just take our heads out of our asses for one quick second and take a gander around Hollywood. Because this place is stacked — literally stacked — with women who could play this role in their sleep. And to prove my point, I’m gonna list some of the most famous ones so we can just get that excuse out of the way and start tackling the misogynistic issues that I feel are really delaying this production. So, here we go. Fifteen Actresses Who Could Play The Role Of Wonder Woman With Their Eyes Closed.

Megan Fox in gold dress and pink earrings, Visual-WENN.com,January 2013, Los Angeles1. MEGAN FOX
Such an obvious choice that she’s barely even in the running anymore, after saying, “Wonder Woman is a lame superhero…She flies around in her invisible jet and her weaponry is a lasso that makes you tell the truth. I just don’t get it. Somebody has a big challenge on their hands whoever takes that role but I don’t want to do it.”

Cobie Smulders in white long sleeved dress, WENN, September 2012, West Hollywood2. COBIE SMULDERS
She has experience in an action movie from The Avengers, and she’s charismatic enough to make the character personable and cheekbone-y enough to keep the fanboys happy.

Michelle Rodriguez in purple strapless dress, Adriana M. Barraza-WENN.com, August 2013, Los Angeles3. MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ
I’m not the super-biggest fan of hers, but I’d love for there to be a less likable Wonder Woman. Like a little cocky almost. Why not? It worked for Tony Stark!

Angelina Jolie in black shirtless top, WENN, June 2001, Westwood4. ANGELINA JOLIE
Would that I had a time machine and could make this happen. I think she’s a little too family-centric now, and out of the age range that they’d probably like, but back in her Lara Croft days? Damn girl.

Blake Lively in cream tank and shimmery skirt, Alberto Reyes/WENN.com, July 2013, NYC5. BLAKE LIVELY
This isn’t really even a version I’d particularly like to watch, but I can see Blake in the costume in my head, and hear her getting pointers on doing a mediocre job in superhero movies from her husband Ryan Reynolds, so I’m listing her as eminently castable.

Gina Carano in silver strapless gown, WENN, May 2013, London6. GINA CARANO
Guys she’s gorgeous, she’s talented, and she’s an MMA FIGHTER. Are we serious? It was like she was brewed in a test tube specifically to play this part.

Rooney Mara in navy and white, hair slicked back, WENN, February 2012, Berlin7. ROONEY MARA
Probably the strongest actor on this list, and she had such a stark physical transformation for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo that I also just selfishly want to see what she’d do with it.

Ashley Greene in white dress, Apega-WENN.com, August 2013, Los Angeles8. ASHLEY GREENE
What an excellent way to break away from Twilight once and for all, while also getting some excellent use out of that brunette coloring and absurd jawline.

Diane Kruger in green and black gown, Guillermo Proano-WENN.com, July 2013, Hollywood9. DIANE KRUGER
Oh I’m sorry, are we not capable of asking actresses to dye their hair or wear wigs anymore? Because Diane would make a seriously badass Diana Prince. Just think about it. You know I’m right.

Zoe Saldana in light blue dress, Tony Forte-WENN, July 2013, San Diego10. ZOE SALDANA
And after all that crap I just gave you for not considering a blond actress, I know we’re not about to go through the same thing with an actress who isn’t white. Zoe would be kickass, and if my imagination is any guide, she could honestly pull off the costume.

Taylor Cole in black-white dress with ruffled sleeves, WENN, July 2011, Hollywood11. TAYLOR COLE
This wasn’t an actress I was extra familiar with, but she showed up on a couple people’s lists of potentials to play this role. I’m in favor of it because she looks like Megan Fox but seems to have none of that douchey ego stuff lying around.

Mila Kunis, WENN, February 2013, London12. MILA KUNIS
Can you not totally see this? I can totally see this. It’d be the perfect role to follow up Black Swan and get Mila to continue being taken seriously, while also boosting her career with a superhero franchise.

eliza dushku in black blazer and gold top, WENN, April 2012, NYC13. ELIZA DUSHKU
Aw yeah, son. An edgy, pissed off Wonder Woman who has to join the cheer-leading team because there’s no gymnastics program. I kid, but not really. I would love to see this movie.

Olivia Munn in white with silver necklace, Andres Otero-WENN.com, July 2013, NYC14. OLIVIA MUNN
If you’re not watching The Newsroom, your argument as to Olivia not being a good actor is immediately invalid. She’s beautiful, she’s strong, she’s talented, and also she said this thing, “I love Wonder Woman as much as I love Batman. But obviously a little bit more because she’s such a strong female figure, and there aren’t that many strong female superheroes out there.” She’s perfect.

scarlett johansson in black and green strapless dress, WENN, November 2012, NYC15. SCARLETT JOHANSSON
Another purely castable person, like Blake Lively, except probably less so because she already appeared as a hero in The Avengers. This would be a cop-out, sure, but at least the film would get made, because people looooove putting her in movies.

Okay everybody, was that good for you? Did I miss anybody? Let’s throw them on the list so we can get this paddy-wagon moving. There are young girls to inspire!
