So apparently I’m the one sole being on earth who never heard a “Raven Symone is probably gay” rumor in the mill of random celebrity rumors, because I didn’t know her sexual preferences were ever a hot topic. Now I know they are, because she “came out” via one singular tweet and every single media outlet went ape shit. Everything I’ve read so far has been pretty positive, which is wonderful. But from what I’ve read about her personally, her sexual orientation has been subjected to public scrutiny before and she hasn’t been super forthright about it in the past. Just because she “came out” doesn’t mean she’s inviting everyone into her bedroom for a lesbian love-sesh viewing, mmmmmkay?
I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you

See? Super cute, right? It’s short, sweet, happy, and gets the point across sans Barbara Walters sit-down interview or US Weekly cover spread. Perfect! After all the rumors and speculation (which I’m seriously kind of stunned about being out of the loop on– I’m practically omnipotent about celebrity news no one cares about), she was able to control the message and have it released the way she saw fit. Which is definitely part of the beauty of social media, I might add.
Most likely anticipating her message would catch on like wildfire, Raven gave a follow-up statement to E! News:
“I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”
Great! I’m happy for her. Maybe Benedict Cumberbatch can officiate her future wedding! Now can we let her get on with her life? That’s all, folks.
