This may shock you, so I apologize in advance — but the internet seems not to know what it’s talking about lately. We’re all pretty solid on the fact that Amanda Bynes is in the hospital right now, and will be for another two weeks (or a little less) in fulfillment of the 5250 hold she’s currently under for mental evaluation. She’s been showing signs of schizophrenia, and doctors want to keep her around for as long as possible to get the medication to take hold before they release her. We’re all clear on that; all on the same page.
What people are starting to disagree on, though, is how Amanda’s parents fit into all this. Obviously all the choices made were Amanda’s, and whatever illness she’s struggling with is also hers alone, but some sources are claiming that her parents urging Amanda into show business against her will is what provided the catalyst for her mental breakdown. If you believe Amanda’s former friend Ana Rivera, Amanda never wanted to act, she just wanted attention and approval from her parents, with whom she was never really close.
Or if you believe other sources, like this new one speaking to Radar Online, Amanda and her mother were very close for awhile, essentially best friends, and she’s already opening back up to her even as her mom, Lynn Bynes, tries to get control over her daughter’s finances.
“[Amanda is] absolutely aware of what is going on, and that her mother attempted to get a conservatorship of her. She doesn’t like it, but Amanda absolutely loves her mother. They have a complicated relationship, but they get along most of the time, and used to be very, very close. Before Amanda’s mental health issues became so dire, she used to say her mom was her best friend. Mother and daughter have been talking daily since Friday. Lynn has just tried to emphasize to Amanda that she just wants her to continue to get medical treatment.”
Lynn’s petition to become Amanda’s temporary conservator was denied last Friday because the judge wanted to do a full investigation, especially given the fact that Amanda’s mandatory hospitalization gives them more time to figure things out before Amanda is released under her own recognizance and this becomes a pressing issue. Pending the investigation, Amanda’s mom still may be granted a more permanent conservatorship, but it sounds like she’s also considering dropping it altogether:
“Lynn is ready to drop the petition to become Amanda’s temporary conservator, if her daughter agrees to continue to get medical treatment. Getting the conservatorship was a last-ditch effort for Lynn, in order to get Amanda medical treatment. It broke Lynn’s heart to have to do it, and she is really leaning toward dropping it.”
Yeah I mean, there really isn’t a downside to Amanda getting medical treatment. It’s just a relief she’s finally being taken seriously and receiving the help she’s needed for a long time.
