Emma Roberts Arrested For Domestic Violence After Fight With Boyfriend Evan Peters

Evan Peters and Emma Roberts May 2013

In rather shocking news, 22-year-old Emma Roberts was arrested for domestic violence July 7 in Montreal, Canada, after a fight with her boyfriend and American Horror Story co-star Evan Peters, 26. TMZ reports that, according to law enforcement in Montreal, someone called the police to report an altercation in the couple’s hotel room. Evan allegedly had a bloody nose, and one source reported a bite mark, although sources close to Emma deny that she bit Evan. Emma was immediately arrested. Evan did not wish to press charges, so Emma was released from jail hours later.

Sources close to Emma told TMZ that the two were hitting each other, and Emma was arrested because Evan had obvious injuries. However, TMZ spotted Emma a week after the incident with bruised legs and a bandage on her elbow, possibly a result of the fight. The pair, who have been dating since the spring of 2012, are reportedly back together and working on the upcoming season of American Horror Story.

Evan and Emma released a joint statement to Us Weekly about the situation.

“It was an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding. Ms. Roberts was released after questioning and the couple are working together to move past it.”

This is clearly very shocking news, considering the people involved. Things appeared to be going well for the young couple, as they were photographed together looking happy on the red carpet for The Lone Ranger premiere only two weeks before the incident. Emma, who is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of Julia Roberts, was a child star on the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous. So far she seemed to have avoided the controversy that tends to accompany former child stars as they grow up. It just goes to show that there’s really no way to fully predict what goes on with celebrities behind closed doors. For now it seems we’ll have to wait and see if more details come to light about this surprising situation.
