Look, I get it. You don't like sports. I don't either. But I promise you that you'll enjoy watching this amazing GIF of Carly Rae Jepsen throwing a horribly bad first pitch at yesterday's Tampa Bay Rays versus Houston Astros game. What was she doing there? I don't know. I naturally assumed that the one-hit-wonder bus whisked her away to irrelevance by now. But I guess collaborating with Owl City on "Good Time" gave her a lot more staying power than I realized. At least enough to be asked to throw out the first pitch at a televised baseball game.
While I'm pretty sure that people don't expect much from celebrity pitchers, I think they usually expect the ball to go a little bit closer to the catcher. Or a little bit more in the right direction or a little bit more something (maybe). Then again I think my high school soccer coach also expected my foot to make contact with the ball when I approached it at a running speed and yelled to the others "mine!" In the same way that my friends expected me to catch the frisbee when it was launched in my direction on the beach and my ninth grade PE instructor expected me to be able to run for three whole minutes without having to take 14 cry n' wheeze breaks. Expectations run high — always too high if you're me — in sports and it's nice to see celebrities also experience those "omg, please, please say no one saw that" moments too.
It's also nice to know that if I'm ever asked to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game and I subsequently mess up, I can just pretend that I was just pulling the classic Carly Rae Jepsen move for laughs. Which is probably a better plan than breaking my arm and hoping that it's ridiculously powerful when the cast comes off (and that twist, my mom's an amazing pitcher!).
So with that in mind, sit back, relax and take in this GIF over and over and over again. It's Monday morning, you deserve to laugh at something silly.
