UPDATE (noon): A rep for Lea Michele released the following statement to People magazine:
“We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time.”
UPDATE (11:00 a.m.): Below is a statement on behalf of GLEE Executive Producers, 20th Century Fox Television and FOX Broadcasting Company.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
Cory Monteith, best known as Finn on Glee, has reportedly passed away. The actor, only 31 years old, was found in a Vancouver hotel room by local police who said that while the specific cause of death is still under investigation, they do not suspect foul play was involved.
Monteith was open about his struggle with addiction from an early age, and checked himself into rehab earlier this year after reportedly suffering a relapse. We felt he set a positive, self-aware example for others because of it. It seems like he had a very supportive group of friends as well as his girlfriend, Lea Michele, and a bright future ahead of him — it’s a tragedy anytime someone passes away so suddenly, but even more so when that person is so young.
While we wait for further information to report, both the Monteith and Glee families remain in our thoughts and prayers.
