I Actually Love Kristen Wiig Even More For Not Wanting To Do A Bridesmaids Sequel

Kristen Wiig 2013 Golden Globes

Yep, you read that right.  I respect and love and admire Kristen Wiig even more than I already did for immediately shooting down the idea of a Bridesmaids sequel. Don’t get me wrong–I adored the movie, and it will always be the kind of movie that will make you late for things anytime it’s on television.  I just don’t think a sequel would be a good idea. You know why?  Because sequels are usually super terrible, and even though practically every film is turned into a franchise these days it’s only because of the almighty dolla-dolla-bill, y’all.

In a recent interview, Wiig revealed that she and her writing partner (also known as the paranoid passenger on the plane in Bridesmaids) Annie Mumolo, were offered the opportunity to make a sequel to the 2011 hit, and they both agreed that turning it down wasn’t a hard decision:

“We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”

Amen, sister!  If we’ve learned anything from The Hangover, Fast & Furious, and most recently the new Anchorman trailer, it’s that sometimes what’s best for the fat pockets of movie studios and their stars isn’t always what’s best creatively.  Brideamaids also made over $300 million, so if there’s anyone out there who thinks that’s not enough money please step forth so I can slap you.

That being said, I’m looking forward to just about anything Kristen and Annie create in the future.  Sisters are doin’ it!
