Someone should define the concept of ‘love’ for Kanye West, because the fact that he thinks he’s in it with Kim Kardashian guarantees to me that he doesn’t know the first thing about it. Call me a prude, but when you’re in love with someone, you don’t leave them pregnant in the United States while you record an album in Paris. As far as I know, there are studios in the U.S., but it’s easier that you use the ones in France and let your girlfriend fly back and forth. Everyone knows that pregnant ladies are more buoyant. In a recent interview for W magazine, Kanye is asked why he appeared on Keeping Up With The Kardashians after being fairly outspoken about keeping his distance:
“Oh, that’s just all for love. It’s simply that. At a certain point, or always, love is more important than any branding or any set of cool people, or attempting to impress anyone. Because true love is just the way you feel.”
Just to be clear, Kanye is definitely saying that that show is uncool and damages his brand, right? I just want to make sure I’m reading that correctly, since it’s such a romantic declaration of love, “I care so much about this girl that I don’t care that she’s a big pile of unimpressiveness wrapped up in a whole wheat uncoolness tortilla. True love is just a feeling, brah. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don’t. But when I do, sometimes I can make it go away by eating a taco, so that’s pretty cool. ”
In Kim’s case, true love meant she wore a lot of the clothing that Kanye suggested to her during her pregnancy, resulting in outfits that had more in common with sausage casings than maternity wear. She went along with it, though, even when her ensembles drew harsh criticism from almost everyone with any approximation of eyeholes. But no matter, says Kanye:
“Nobody can tell my girl what to do,” he says. “She just needed to be given some platforms of information to work from. For her to take that risk in front of the world, it just shows you how much she loves me. And how much she actually loves the opportunity to learn. You got, like, a million companies saying ‘This is impacting your brand! This is impacting your fans! And blah blah blah.’ But she still sees this light of beauty.”
Yes yes, Kanye, as eloquent as always. Nobody tells Kim what to do! I mean except for you, and Kris Jenner, and Ryan Seacrest, and E!, and her sisters, and her lawyer, and divorce court, and Kris Humphries. But other than that, nobody. Congratulations on your super cool love, bro. It’s just a joy to watch.
