Were you guys aware that Lizzy Caplan and Michael Sheen are starring in a new Showtime series about sex in the 1950s? If not, get up off the floor. I’m sorry you fainted from excitement, but it’s totally worth it if you get to find out something as thrilling as that, am I right? I’ve already woken up from my excitement faint and stretched, so I’m all set to talk about this with you. The show is called Masters of Sex, and it’s based on the true story of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, who researched sexual response in the 1950s. The best part? It looks funny, at least from this new teaser promo. Move over, Liam Neeson as Alfred Kinsey, there are a coupla new sexologists in town!
The video is short but sweet, and it gives you a nice glimpse into the tone of the show, which looks to be sexy, informative, and lots o’ fun. We’ve got some shots of half-naked people, a few sex-related sounds (was that a bed creaking?), and plenty of sexy talk. Then Lizzy Caplan gets a nice zinger in about women faking orgasms and I’m officially sold. The fact that it’s set in the 1950s is already enough to convince me to watch it. We’ve got the ’60s covered on Mad Men, so let’s get a good ’50s series going. I’m looking forward to fabulous clothes and scandalous storylines. Add the presence of Lizzy and Michael, and I am so there. In case you live in a world without Mean Girls (which is extremely tragic, and you should get that fixed), I should inform you that Lizzy is hilarious in it, as well as on Party Down and in various other wonderful things. And Michael Sheen dated Liz Lemon on 30 Rock so he’s got permanent cool points from me.
The show premieres Sunday, September 29 after Homeland, so when you’re done watching Claire Danes stretch the limits of her chin-acting, you can watch Janis Ian and Wesley Snipes (both of whom are named after real-life people, interestinggg) talk sexytimes.
