I’m so so in love with Neil Patrick Harris right now that I don’t even know what to do with myself. While I sadly could not watch him host the 2013 Tony Awards live last night due to the fact that Sunday night continues to host every possible TV show ever invented, I’m thrilled that his amazing opening number got shared online so everyone can see it. It’s absolutely spectacular. And I never use the word spectacular because I fear that overusing it will lead to it becoming the new LOL. You know, that thing you say just to fill in an awkward silence.
“I got so hungover this weekend after drinking overpriced jungle juice. lol. u kno?”
So trust me when I say that this opening number will make your day. Also it will take up half your day. I’ll warn you now that it’s 8 minutes and 6 seconds long. Even though I know that’s 8 minutes and 3 seconds longer than your normal attention span, I promise you that it’s worth sitting through.
And I don’t even want to hear that you resisted pressing play because you’re not into musicals. Not only is every single Broadway musical based on a movie that plays on TV 16 times a year – A Christmas Story, Matilda, Bring it On – but it’s just an all-around good time. Neil Patrick Harris sings and dances and jokes for 8 full minutes. And even manages to squeeze a Les Mis joke in. Seriously, The man can do no wrong. So unless you’re a cold-hearted tone-deaf monster with Internet access, prepare to fall deeply in love with this spectacular performance.
